From the Bel Air Downtown Alliance:
On Sunday, June 13th the Bel Air Downtown Alliance will be launching a summer series of Second Sundays with Music on Main. More than 15 unique shops, retail stores, and restaurants will be participating with special store hours on the second Sunday of each month, June through September. As an added bonus, and to set the mood for Downtown exploration, local musicians will be performing in Frederick Ward Park (next to the Bel Air Armory) and in front of the Old Courthouse between Courtland and Office Streets. Second Sundays and Music on Main will take place from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on June 13th, July 11th, August 8th, and September 12th.
“A few of our shops and retail locations already had Sunday hours and most of our restaurants were already open too,” said Scott T. Walker, Executive Director of the Bel Air Downtown Alliance. “However, we wanted to include more and create an atmosphere that encouraged people to visit Downtown Bel Air on Sunday afternoons to explore everything that we have to offer,” he continued. Mr. Walker went on to explain that part of the Bel Air Downtown Alliance’s mission is to create a visitor friendly destination in Downtown Bel Air. He went to say, “Downtown Bel Air has so many wonderful boutiques, retail locations, and restaurants. Our goal is to promote Downtown Bel Air as a destination for shopping, dining, events, and exploration. Too many of our own neighbors aren’t even aware of everything there is to do and see in their own backyard. Second Sundays is just one more of our new and exciting promotions designed to highlight Downtown Bel Air as a destination.”
Mr. Walker also explained that Music on Main is being added to Second Sundays to create a festive environment that will encourage people to stroll up and down Main Street while exploring everything that is unique to Downtown Bel Air. “So many people just think of ‘Main Street’ when they think about Downtown Bel Air. Main Street is just a part of the whole picture. If you really want to experience Downtown Bel Air, you have to venture over to Bond Street, walk down Main past Broadway, head back up Main past Churchville Road, and explore all of the side streets. We think that Music on Main will play a significant role in creating the right atmosphere that encourages exploration,” said Mr. Walker.
