From Harford County government:
The Department of Community Services is proud to present the 1st Annual Youth Volunteer Expo, designed to inform the community about youth volunteer opportunities available throughout Harford County. The event will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm (vendor set up is at 8:00am) at The John Carroll School, 703 E. Churchville Road in Bel Air. The Expo is open to the public with free admission, and vendor space is still available.
The 1st and 2nd Annual Volunteer Expos (held in April 2009 and March 2010, respectively) were a huge success; so much so, that there was an expressed need for aseparate Expo focusing solely on youth volunteer opportunities.
The Department of Community Services receives many calls from its partners expressing a need for volunteers; and many calls from area youth and their families inquiring about opportunities available within the community. The Youth Volunteer Expo presents ample opportunities to speak directly to potential volunteers and even assign volunteers to available jobs on the spot. The Department of Community Services invites those interested in supporting the Expo to join by participating as a vendor. In doing so, vendors will receive a table (with two chairs) to display their information; organizations will also receive recognition on the Department’s web site and in advertising. Take this opportunity to promote short or long-term volunteer opportunities, specifically for youth, available with organizations, groups or individuals. Please come prepared with youth volunteer jobs such as help with ongoing projects, staffing annual events, etc. There is space for 15 vendors to have electricity. Space will be provided on a first-come,first-served basis, so if an organization requires electricity, they should register soon. There will be 65 total vendor spaces available.
Nearly 600 people attended the regular Expo in March 2010; we anticipate a considerable turnout at the 1st Youth Volunteer Expo, as there is a significant need for youth volunteer opportunities. The Youth Volunteer Expo provides a perfect opportunity to spread the word about an organization and to attract potentially long-lasting volunteers. The cost to participate as a vendor is $20. Space is limited, but still available, with registration due by July 30, 2010. The Vendor Registration form is available on the Department of Community Services website at www.volunteerharford.org.
