From Jansen Robinson, candidate for Harford County Board of Education, District A:
My opponent has on a number of occasions made assertions that his experience as a Professional Teacher (in Baltimore County) and his status as a retired Baltimore City Police Sergeant makes him uniquely qualified to serve District A on the Harford County School Board.
I simply compared both of his job description(s) and mine with the primary responsibilities of the Harford County Board of Education. My opponent warns that voters shouldn’t just listen to what we say, and I agree.
Teaching is a very noble profession and my opponent should be commended on his willingness and desire to help prepare today’s youth for tomorrows opportunities. But there are currently three educators on the Board of Education as I point out in the attached email.
Anyone familiar with the structure of military/paramilitary organizations, knows that Sergeants are not involved in the Policy-Making end of the organization. Sergeants may very well contribute, but generally do not make policy.
Attached is the email that prompted my opponent to contact every news source in this county:

You need to get a life. Nothing will come of the negative barbs. You lose.
So what makes you soooooooo special, hey? What expertise do you have that uniquely qualifies you?
Seems to me that that more diverse the experience the better the Board. My vote goes to the teacher not the demolition expert.
One who knows says
I don’t know much about either candidate for this position except what I have heard from persons familiar with one of the candidates. From what I can see, both are probably qualified for the position (Mr. Robinson having a slight edge based on his resume). However, those that I have talked to who know Mr. Frish, or know of him, have said he seldom communicates with his neighbors (until recently when he decided to campaign for this position). For Mr. Robinson, although I have not heard anything negative, his failure to comment on the issues concerns me. When I see this in a candidate, I’m thinking that all he or she wants is something to do or to use the position as a stepping stone to higher office. I see that in Art Helton; he just wants something to do and get paid for it.

Agreed. Robinson has been completely ineffective as the chair of the Edgewood Community Council. He likes to talk about the ‘community’ but prior to this election cycle, I had never seen or heard of Robinson in any context before. He is a political opportunist who continues to be played by Councilman Guthrie. The voters sent a strong message in the primary with Robinson losing by a 2-1 margin. In fact, he only got 500 more votes than someone who had dropped out of the race.
Also of interest is that Robinson has reportedly raised (and spent) no money and yet I see signs everywhere. I’m sure they aren’t cheap so I wonder how this is all being handled/reported?
It’s time to say ‘no more’ to this political circus of Guthrie-Robinson-Washington.
Big John says
Good points Watcher. I also wonder how this is being REPORTED ?
Watcher says
Sadly, it’s not. Can’t count on The Aegis for anything and while The Dagger does good work, not enough people are aware of it.
Elaine says
What makes you say Mr. Robinson has been ineffective as Chair of the Edgewood Community Council. Until he ran it, no one was even aware of it. He brought attention to the group and made it politically viable. Can’t say that about any other Council in this County. Geez the Abingdon area doesn’t even have one and there are many people and issues in that area. Mr. Robinson does deserve much of the credit but so do other people who have worked to get this organization running including Mr. Guthrie.
Right on! says
Well put Elaine! I agree 100%
Watcher says
Have you ever been to an Edgewood Community Council meeting? Clearly not. Nothing of substance is discussed. The meetings mostly consist of Guthrie taking credit for everything except the invention of the wheel and Robinson saying the word ‘community’ every 30 seconds. There is no plan to tackle the issues facing the area. It’s a two hour meeting of people patting each on the back.

I have tried to find where Mr. Robinson has taken any position on school system issues. I found a FaceBook page but it doesn’t say anything. All I can find are a few broad statements with no specifics. Even in the above email all he does is bash Frisch. He doesn’t say what he wants to do or how he would make things better in our schools. “Schools are a reflection of the communities that they serve” is just a cliche. What does it really mean?
On the other hand if you research Mr. Frisch you can find a web page that is full of information about him and his ideas for the school system.
This is frisch says
Clearly, this post is by bob Frisch.

I just love that compare and contrast list in his email. I won’t comment on Robinson’s listed experiences, but I can say that Frisch does, in fact, have experience in just about every one of those categories from his time in the BCPD and as a teacher. Robinson would have you believe that he is the better qualified candidate, but he puts forth pure falsifications to make his point.
Take our Countyback says
I thought this was a non-partisan position? I believe Guthrie is supporting Robinson which is how he is getting his signs, although I may be wrong.
I have heard what Frisch wants to do on the Board, but I haven’t heard anything that Robinson wants to do. One of the things that impresses me about Frisch is how he can get White Boards for the classrooms cheaper than what the County has already gotten some of them for.
Big John says
I also thought this was a non-partisan position. Who started this partisan stuff for this? I think it was Mr. Robinson, but I could be wrong.
another John says
It is supposed to be non-partisan. Mr. Robinson is the one who has decide to make it a partisan issue. Saw his email and a flier he was leaving on doors in Joppatowne making it a democrat/republican thing. I don’t think people really care about that for the school board.
An Oldtime Harford county-ite says
Mr. Frisch has spoken clearly and concisely on what he hopes to accomplish if elected to the school board. Why hasn’t Mr. Robinson?
Mr. Frisch has a variety of issues that he has proposed solutions, where are Mr. Robinsons?
Mr. Frisch has offered information that he is open to new ways to manage the schools budgeting issues, where are Mr. Robinson’s answers other than more money for Rt.40 schools? I am not in that district, so I cannot vote for either, but as far as the most able and/or qualified, Mr. Frisch would be my choice, based on his independent thinking and experience in the real work world.

Obviously the voters did more than listen to what Robinson was saying, which was nothing much. Now could he and his sidekick Guthrie remove their campaign signs? They have been up long enough and their continued refusal to remove them shows their collective disrespect for the communities they claim to care so much about.
