Harford County Public Library (HCPL) Foundation held its 6th annual gala, the Mad Hatter’s Ball, on November 6, 2010. Guests, many adorned in hats, celebrated another year of success for the Library Foundation by raising $135,000.
“Everyone enjoyed this year’s gala with its whimsical and fun theme,” stated Mary Hastler, Associate Director for the Library. “A special thanks to our generous sponsors, hardworking volunteers, and to all who made this an unforgettable event. The Library is truly appreciative of the support that it receives from the Harford County community.”
Guests were greeted by “the Queen and her army of cards,” thanks to a selection of Harford Community College actors. Décor included a wool runner rug and large tea cups on towers by Fandango Productions; tea cup centerpieces created by Richardson’s Florist; a wide selection of food prepared by Pairs Bistro; coffee and teas from Coffee Coffee, cheese by Broom’s Bloom Dairy; beverages from Bottleworks; sound provided by Luciano’s Entertainment and music throughout the evening from the Jeff Decker band. Guests could also purchase long stemmed roses from Flowers by Bauer’s.
“We were so pleased to be a part of this year’s gala. The theme was fabulous and night was a huge success,” explained Hillary Depman, owner of Coffee Coffee. We have received wonderful feedback from our customers who attended the event. The Depman family and Coffee Coffee are proud to have developed such a great partnership with the Library Foundation and we look forward to many successful galas in the future!”
Guests bid from a selection of live auction packages that included a Raven’s weekend with tickets and hotel accommodations, a three night stay at Williamsburg, and a behind the scenes tour at the Smithsonian. Aimee O’Neill was the event auctioneer.
“Each gala has been a unique event with this one becoming our largest achievement to date, enabling the Foundation to support many Library services and resources,” stated Terry Troy, HCPL Foundation President. “It was a night to remember with whimsical hats, amazing décor, fantastic food and great music. Thank you to everyone involved for making this event a resounding success for both the HCPL Foundation and Harford County.”

The Abingdon Branch was decorated with touches of Wonderland for the Mad Hatter’s Ball on November 6, 2010. Tea cups could be found throughout the branch and guests wore their maddest hats!
