From the office of Del. Mary-Dulany James:
Dear Friends:
As you may recall, in 2006 I worked with people from Harford and Cecil counties, several prominent veterans groups, and other concerned parties, to sponsor and pass an act to protect Marylanders from protesters during memorial services. Although this law was challenged by some, I felt strongly, as did many others, that it was the right thing to do. The state of Maryland has a long history of supporting military families, and I am proud to have taken this step to continue that tradition.
In Arizona, the legislature passed an emergency act to protect those in mourning during funerals or burial services in the wake of the recent tragedy two Saturdays ago. I know you all share in the nation’s sorrow for the lives lost and the terrible injuries inflicted on those that survived this tragic event. This is a time for our country to step back and strengthen our commitment to a political process and society that rejects violence as a means of expression.
Families deserve to heal in peace, and I applaud my counterparts in Arizona for taking action to protect them. I am proud to have done so in Maryland.
Again, I send all of my warmest wishes to those impacted by this tragic event.
Very Truly Yours,
Mary-Dulany James

I am confident that the meaning of free speech does not pertain to funerals. However the 2nd amendment says “a well regulated militia” and look where we are today.

The 8 member church at the center of this is a crew of mental defectives.

The memorial service was disguisting. The shaman who blessed his son…a disgrace. The sherrif entering like a WWF wrestler with hands raised, displayed on the jumbo-tron. More akin to a political rally…i found as distastfull as the crack-pot church that threatened to invade the funeral.
