HCPS should take a poll on how many Jewish youngsters actually attend HCPS. Why oh why are Jewish holidays days off (September 17 and 26) when our Jewish population is tiny? Those students can get excused absences and let the rest of the kids go to school.
We can’t call Christmas Christmas or Easter Easter, but we close the schools for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur? Give me a break.

Several years ago I suggested that there should be guidelines for getting off for religious holidays. Not every county gets off for Jewish holidays nor should they if the population isn’t great enough to warrant it. The way it stands now there is no reason why Muslims shouldn’t get holidays off either. Years ago a few people in the Jewish community demanded it and now it is part of the calendar.
