Cindy Mumby says
Hi Sheriff Bane,
What can you tell us about some of the newer drugs being used in the area, such as “bath salts”?
Will there be any additional resources directed to our public schools as a result of Harford County’s new designation as a high-intensity drug trafficking area?
Brian Goodman says
Here are some highlights from the Sheriff Bane interview (including quotes about how the HIDTA designation may impact local property values, how the war against gangs is going in Aberdeen and Edgewood, and his personal thoughts on the legalization of drugs).

How can you justify giving Conmed, the contractor for medical services at the Detention Center, a 3% per hour rate increase, in addition to providing more funds for mental health services or drug addiction for a total of almost $3.5 million per year? Why don’t you use the funds to provide for more deputies, give your employees a raise that they haven’t had in five years or do something to benefit the good people of the community and not the ones who have chosen to put themselves behind bars by committing a crime? Your liberal Democrat ideas don’t go over very well with the citizens when the economy is this poor.

Sheriff: Just read on the Dagger that a new rank of Senior Deputy is being created in your agency, giving only 60 or so deputies a new rank and a 6% raise. WOuldn’t the money be better spent giving all your employees the second half of the bonus that they were denied and keeping all your employees happy instead of causing more divisiveness? How is it that you have money for a new rank but no raises across the board especially since the economy is so poor. where is this money coming from? FIrst the teachers, now the deputies. God help us if the deputies “work to rule” like the teachers will be doing.
