From the office of Congressman Andy Harris:
Rep. Andy Harris voted against the smoke and mirrors Reid Plan which includes over $1 trillion in imaginary savings. In addition, Senator Reid has repeatedly stated that his was the only plan that could pass both chambers, yet it was rejected by a bipartisan and overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives.
“I came to Washington to end budget tricks, accounting gimmicks and empty promises,” said Rep. Andy Harris. “The Reid Plan has no Balanced Budget Amendment that would provide the permanent accountability America needs in Washington. In light of yesterday’s grim economic news, we need to end the uncertainty and fear that President Obama and Senator Reid continue to promote. We need to send a strong signal to job creators that we are serious about getting our wasteful spending under control.”
Currently, the U.S. Government has a national debt of $14.5 trillion and runs an annual deficit of $1.65 trillion a year.

Who does Rep Harris work for? He would actually want to default on the USA and make himself look like a champion of the right. Wasn’t this the same person, who complained about his health care not taking effect? I agree with him about coming to Washington to change the way things are done. BUT not on the backs of ordinary Maryland Voters. This is not the Andy Harris show! This is the American people not defaulting on the debt and paying the price because congress wants to grandstand.

He works for the people in his district that voted for him to go to Washington and keep his campaign promises. The people who want him to do something different than what he promised think it is still “busines as usual” meaning promise one thing and do another. Maybe that has changed. If you live in his district he told you when he was running what he believed and what he intended to do. The voters who elected him expect him to do exactly that – a curious concept but it just might be gaining traction. If you want him to do something else then wake up and smell the coffee. The people know that the only way to get spending under control is to lock up the credit cards. Continuing to spend more and raise the debt ceiling to cover it is insane. Andy Harris believes spending is the issue and he is right.

Its the economy stupid!!!. The deficit, while problematic does not affect me today, the lack of economic activity and growth are a more pressing problem as the slugish economic growth does not allow new jobs to be created and the market needs at a minimum a growth of 2$ just to keep the unemployment % at its current level. The foreclosure curve is still trending upwards to higher levels of defaults and foreclosures further depressing the equity and wealth of homeowners. Yes, the market will recover in due time but the losses for many are not recoverable as they are nearing retirement and stock market losses have also eaten into the nestegg. The result will be that many will delay retirement and others won’t be able to become fully employed for the near future. The Tea Party won one for their members but lost one for America. Cuts of budgeted discretionary spending (spending not mandated by law) will put an undue burden on many people from the retired, disabled, students and the disadvantaged while the advantaged will continue to enjoy super low personal tax rates not seen since the Reagan administration (Paul- get to work and refute that one too. I am quite sure you’ll find a way to do so)and blame the Obama admistration for the $14 trillion in debt too. The Taxed Enough Already party does not seem to know that taxes are now lower than they have been in quite sometime. The contradiction is that while they support tax credits, refunds and capital gain rate reductions, they expect govt to still fund they core projects such as unfunded wars on the credit card and no cuts to discretionary millitary spending which has cost the the future taxpayers trillions of $$$. While there seems tu be a budget deal that will reduce spending over the next ten years, the cuts are still yet to be determined, but I hope that when it affects their core beliefts that they will not protest the cuts but support them since they are more worried about the deficit than maintaining our govts obligation to its citizens.

No he works for ALL the people of his district. Even if they did not vote for him!

Well, not exactly, if you mean that he has to make everyone happy and represent their views. He can’t much of the time because their views are diamtrically opposed.
He has to keep his campaign promises and, if he is reponsible, he should know the views of the voters in his district. He does. If they don’t like that then they have a process to remove him and/or to not re-elect him. If they believe he is going to vote the way they want him to vote when it is not what he promised to do if elected then they are delusional.
If you think people like Mikulski, O’Malley, Obama, etc., represent my views than you don’t know me. They don’t represent my views and they have no intention of representing my views. They represent the views of those who voted for them (sometimes) and those who last contributed to their campaign (most of the time).
