From the Bel Air Downtown Alliance:
The Bel Air Downtown Alliance is currently seeking a local fashionista to share her style, fashion expertise, shopping prowess, and tips with the online world. Starting February 1, 2012, the Bel Air Downtown Alliance will be promoting a social media contest designed to discover a local woman to serve as “guru” for all things fashionable in Downtown Bel Air. The winner of the contest will be tasked with creating short videos promoting the various brisbane suit shops, boutiques, salons, and spas, as well as, weekly blog and social media postings starting in March 2012 and running through the December holiday season. In addition, the winner will receive a Downtown Bel Air Prize Package valued at nearly $250.00.
“We are incredibly blessed in Downtown Bel Air with an amazing variety of women’s boutiques, as well as, many fabulous salons,” stated Scott T. Walker, Executive Director of the Bel Air Downtown Alliance. “Our monthly Girls Night Out promotion was created to highlight these assets and we think this contest is the next BIG step to really impact the local business community in an amazing way,” he continued. Mr. Walker went on to explain that the contest will be asking local women to submit short videos of no more than 30-60 seconds that highlights their flare for style and fashion, shows their unique shopping perspective, and demonstrates their ability to promote local businesses. The contestants will also be asked to create their own brand identity or name. “We really struggled in developing a brand identity for our fashionista project, but we finally realized that the women competing to be selected as our local fashionista should create their own name. If we create the name, we start to force the contestants to fit into a certain mold. The really exciting part about this contest is going to be seeing how the contestants present themselves in a variety of unique and interesting ways. The winner of this contest is going to be the person that not only stands out with respect to style and fashion, but also with respect to a unique and engaging personality,” he continued.
The contest will run throughout March with the videos submitted to the Bel Air Downtown Alliance highlighted on Facebook and Twitter. Their Fans and Followers will be asked to vote on their favorites with the winner being decided by social media votes, as well as, a panel of local business owners. The winner will be announced in time for the Bel Air Downtown Alliance’s 1st Annual Chocolate & Candy Festival Movie Night on Friday, February 24th and “sent to work” on Saturday, March 3rdduring the 11th Annual Chocolate & Candy Festival. The winning fashionista will have a weekly blog, help to contribute to the Bel Air Downtown Alliance’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and create at least two video promotions each month to promote local shops and salons.
“We are SO excited about this contest and can’t wait to start viewing all of the video submissions,” Mr. Walker reported. “There is an amazing sense of style and fashion in Downtown Bel Air from not only the owners of our shops and salons, but also from the local community. Our fashionista is going to be able to share the incredible story of Downtown Bel Air’s style with our community, both locally and globally,” he continued.
