J. Courtney Sullivan, author of the New York Times bestselling novel, Maine, shared her insights on her novel to more than 65 guests at the Abingdon Library on March 21st. Named a Best Book of the Year by Time magazine and a Washington Post Notable Book for 2011, Maine is a story of three generations of women who have nothing in common except for the fact that they are family. Ms. Sullivan shared her inspirations for each character and her selection for Maine as the setting. A book signing preceded the presentation.
Sullivan is also the author of the New York Times bestselling novel, Commencement, and her writing has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The Chicago Tribune, New York magazine, Elle, Glamour, Allure, Men’s Vogue, and the New York Observer, among others. She is a contributor to the essay anthology The Secret Currency of Love and co-editor of Click: When We Knew We Were Feminists. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
