From Harford County government:
The Harford County Community Mediation Program (HCCMP) is proud to announce and welcome the 2011/2012 Class of new mediators. HCCMP promotes providing peaceful alternatives to resolving conflicts for the citizens of Harford County and mediators are volunteers from the community.
A group of 20 dedicated volunteers began their Basic Mediation Training Class in October 2011 and 12 completed the class to become mediators. They come from diverse backgrounds, but share a common interest in making a difference in their community. The volunteers went through 45 hours of training and have begun their apprenticeships.
HCCMP helps individuals resolve their conflict in a safe and neutral setting where they have an opportunity to talk and express their emotions without fear of being judged. Because the mediation process encourages participants to develop their own solutions, the results are more creative, effective, and longer lasting. Mediation is an alternative to court which can be time-consuming, costly, and oftentimes does not actually resolve the underlying reasons for the conflict.
The Harford County Community Mediation Program (HCCMP) is a part of the Harford County Department of Community Services and offers mediation and facilitation services at no charge to the citizens of Harford County.
To learn more about the program or how to become a mediator visit www.harfordmediation.org or call Susan Fisher, HCCMP Coordinator, at 410-638-4807. The next training class will be held in the fall of 2012.
