Where is the picture guys?
Yura Stinker says
Mr. Porter I see the pictures. Not sure what you see
David A. Porter says
It has been my experience that other people are just doing the best that they can. Yura Stinker. How clever.
David A. Porter says
Thanks… they weren’t there earlier
business owner says
they probably wanted to make up the difference from not getting a loan for their business from the county council. I am sure Capt Jim would introduce a bill to give them a loan. Maybe even make sure they don’t pay it back. They look honest enough and I am sure Capt Jim will vouch for them. The council made a mistake in awarding the loan and hopefully the citizens will let the council know about it.
L Hughes says
I Like the police authorities posting pics and requesting assistance, but I also would like it to be more current rather than weeks or more after the event.
just sayin says
Why would it matter if it was more current?? All people talk about on any police posting is HCSO and Bane. Just sayin’
Mike Welsh says
So, which ones do they suspect, the two in the top picture or the two in the bottom picture?
Just saying says
The people in both pictures are the same.

Monster- Your comments would hold some merit if I didnt see you attacking people all the time. Yes I think there are problems within HCSO. But do I blame the sheriff no not so much. I hear how the jail is understaffed yet a new addition was built. What is the point then? Then I hear how patrol is understaffed but a new precinct was bulit. What is the point of this? I believe change is needed but I dont know what a good change consists of. I think that both you and Marc Eaton are passionate about your comments and what you believe in and that is a good thing. I wish that you and others posters could stop the name calling and meet somewhere in the middle. Issues seem to exist, to what extent I dont know I dont work for HCSO and I am not friends with anyone who does work there. I am sure you will attack me but if you don’t well maybe you actually see what I am talking about.

Pot Hole Patrol, please see reply to Mike Welsh below.

Mike, thanks for your response. I would like to address each one of them.
1. Questionable leadership skills according to whom? There are over 500 employees at the HCSO. Wouldn’t we be hearing from more if things were that bad. Marc Eaton never worked for Bane when he became sheriff and Eaton has been retired for a while now. He has an axe to grind and will not relent. Eaton believes that I am a high ranking officer in the HCSO, which I am not, and threatened that if anyone released any information on him he would get a lawyer. One can only assume that his file has some information that he doesn’t want anyone to know. That is fine. Personnel is confidential information, yet he constantly tells these war stories about how Bane treats his employees. He knows full well that the law will not permit Bane to talk about any employee’s record. So, you hear one side of every story he tells. I don’t really know how many of the posters are real, but I am sure by sentence syntax, key words that many are the same person with many different names. Marc always takes the high road and lets other names do the name calling.
2. Yes, Mike, I do believe that. This has been the history of the HCSO. Every 4 years this goes on and deputies line up on whatever side. That is why I don’t think this upcoming election is any different. This does not just happen in the HCSO but in the County Executive’s, Governor’s, President’s, Mayor’s and legislator’s offices as well. It is part of a democracy whether we like it or not. This is the opportunity to get rank that you can’t get any other way. Is it good or bad? Everyone has to judge that for themself, but it does happen.
3.Yes, the need for jail expansion is needed and occurred before Bane. However, it is not as easy as it sounds to find detention officers or deputies. When Tom Golding was sheriff, County Executive Craig gave him money to hire 50 additional deputies. They had a hell of a time finding them, even though over a 1,000 applied. Most could not pass the background and drug tests. Now, that is a sad commentary of our youth. The HCSO has many lateral transfers from other jurisdictions, thank goodness, or we would really be short.
4. Yes, the southern precinct is badly needed. How much money is saved by having deputies who patrol the Edgewood area come from the southern precinct instead of Bel Air. There are many reasons why this is a good idea. Unfortunately, some conservatives, and I am a conservative, have criticized Bane for his budget. He has to build an addition, equip and staff it, and he had a new precinct to build and equip. Of course, his budget will be up. I see no where that Bane wastes money, but if he does, where does he get this money? He is funded by the state and county government primarily. Do I need to say more about this?
5.Sheriff Dom Miele was a good sheriff. He didn’t lose the election because Bane was Chief Deputy. Most people, at that time, did not know Bane, but they knew Miele. Just because we have democratic elections the best person doesn’t always get elected. Your point about the deputies is true. That is what I am saying about the sheriff’s election every 4 years- we go through this mess. Deputies line up hoping that their side will win. That is what is happening now with Gahler issuing nonsensical press releases and his supporters getting on any site that has crime and blaming Bane. Some of those posters will probably get a good promotion should their candidate win.
6. I believe you. That is why I have taken time to respond to you personally. I am not telling you who to vote for, I am telling you that there is a definite campaign technique that is being used on us voters. I am sure that Mr. Gahler would be a fine sheriff, or some others, that is your decision to make. I just can’t sit by and watch these stupid posts repeated over and over again like they were in the last sheriff’s election without coming back at them. I apologize to you and them for some of my comments, and am quite frankly embarrassed by them. But, I cannot stand by and listen to the garbage that is spewed by these manipulative posters.
Thank you again for responding. Best wished to you
Mike Welsh says
Questionable leadership skills are my opinion. They include: His handling of the Major Forwood affair. His consistently passing over people on the promotion list, who have competed in a fair and impartial process, just because he does not like them. His promotion of a Lieutenant to the grade of Major, passing over all of his Captains. His retention of a Deputy who had been found by the States Attorney to have lied and was not permitted to testify in court as a result. I could go on, but you get the idea.
I do not support promotion of officers just because they supported someone during an election process. If you have a merit process (and the HCSO does have a written policy for merit promotion) then you should use your process or rescind the written policy. Don’t play loose with the rules…it serves no good purpose!
The HCSO has consistently raided the correctional officer staff and moved them to law enforcement positions. Overall this practice has not served the HCSO well. It has consistently placed a major element of the HCSO in a sub par position, one in which the HCSO is unnecessarily exposed to law suits, and creates an unacceptable safety risk for the correctional staff. This practice has not been limited to Sheriff Bane, but it continues under Sheriff Bane.
I was very close to several Deputies during the reelection process for Sheriff Mele. Jesse Bane was the overriding issue, not Sheriff Mele. It may be true that the general public did not know Jesse Bane, but the Deputies were very unified in working to inform people who they knew, that change was needed.

Ok, Mike, we will continue to agree to disagree. Best wishes.
