From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
Harford County Sheriff’s deputies have located the suspect vehicle and identified the driver alleged to have been involved in an attempt to lure children into a vehicle on April 24th in the Cedarday development in Bel Air. Detectives have determined there was no attempt to lure children into a vehicle and the driver of the vehicle committed no crime.
On Friday May 10th, at 3pm, deputies were conducting a patrol check of Cedarday and located a Honda van as described in the police report of the alleged attempted abduction. The van was gold in color and had matched the description provided by witnesses. Contact was made with the driver/owner who told police she picks up her grandchildren a few days out of the week and drops them off at an address in Cedarday. The driver told police that the night before she was stopped she had been made aware of the incident in Cedarday by seeing the story in the local news media. She believed it was her vehicle the children saw.
Detectives contacted the families who had reported this incident and after viewing photos of the vehicle they identified it as the vehicle they reported seeing. Through investigation deputies determined the driver had not attempted to lure the children and no crime had been committed.
Deputies stated that even though there was no crime they reiterated that the children made the right choice by telling their parents of something they thought suspicious and parents subsequently reporting it to police.
Charges should be brought against the people who reported the incident, that we now know, never happened.
