On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, neighborhoods throughout Aberdeen are being invited to join forces with communities nationwide for the “32nd Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored by the Aberdeen Police Department and the Aberdeen Home Depot, will involve over 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U. S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, 38.1 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out against Crime”.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 7 to 10 p.m. on August 4th, residents in neighborhoods throughout the City of Aberdeen and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
Aberdeen Police Department in cooperation with the Aberdeen Home Depot will be hosting a community event designed to coordinate with the National Night Out event. The event will kick-off at 5:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m., at the Aberdeen Home Depot located in the Beards Hill Shopping Plaza at 979 Beards Hill Road Aberdeen, Maryland 21001. The event will feature 104.7 The Point broadcasting live during the event. Personnel from the Aberdeen Police Department will be providing child identification kits, crime prevention materials, various handouts and citizen surveys. On display will be APD bike patrol, traffic unit, and the APD-custom police vehicle. Home Depot will provide displays, activities for children and light refreshments. There will be personnel from the Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy to provide a prescription drug take-back service, Aberdeen Fire Department with Fire and EMS apparatus, Staff and children from the Aberdeen Harford County Boys and Girls Club, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Staff from the Department of Emergency Services-911-center.
