From Ripken Baseball:
The bats were busy combining for 14 hits in tonight’s high scoring affair, as Harford County (2-2) held off Midwest Plains (0-4) in a narrow 10-9 victory. Harford County set the tone early on, thanks to Charlie Hafer’s two-run single to left field and David Hanifee’s RBI single. New England refused to roll over, tacking on four runs in the second inning to take the lead.
“It’s always big to get out early, it just gives us confidence,” said Harford County assistant coach Marvin Carr. “All through the year we’ve had games where we have battled like that. Have been down and came back. We won a lot of games like that.”
Harford County had a strong fifth inning as Player of the Game Parker Smith homered to left field and brought in Austin Carr and Hafer to pull ahead 10-7. Midwest Plains was quick to respond with two RBIs from Abe Hestdalen and Midwest Plains’ Player of the Game Brayden Jacobson, to reduce the deficit to one run. Midwest Plains’ effort would fall short in a scoreless sixth inning leaving the final score 10-9.
Harford County looks to continue their winning streak at tomorrow’s Iron Bracket game against Australia at 12:30 p.m. on Citizens Field. Midwest Plains looks to bounce back at tomorrow’s Iron Bracket game against Maryland at 10:00 a.m. on Nationals Field.
