From The Greater Bel Air Community Foundation:
The Greater Bel Air Community Foundation raised more than $55,000 at its 15th Annual Golf Classic on October 17 at Maryland Golf and Country Club.
The funds raised by the golf tournament will be given back to the community through grants awarded by the foundation to nonprofits.
A special award was presented at the tournament. The first Thomas P. Broumel Memorial Award was given to Chuck Boyle, dealer and president of Boyle Buick GMC.
The award will be presented annually to a member of the Harford County community who exemplifies Broumel’s enduring service and commitment to the community to make it a better place to live, work and play.
Broumel served the community as chief of police for the Town of Bel Air; chief deputy of the Harford County Sheriff’s Department; and state fire marshal. He also served as a member of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Department, the Harford County Farm Fair and was chairman of the Planning Board and vice-chairman of the Town of Bel Air Commissioners. Broumel was also on The Greater Bel Air Community Foundation’s board.
As for tournament play, Maryland American Water, with a team comprised of Bob McIntyre, Jeff Barton, John Walker and Steve Laign, took first place with a score of 60. BCV, with Bill Vanden Eynden, Dave Westervelt Sr., Ron Ballard and Reggie Przybyliski, placed second with a score of 60.
Placing third with a score of 62 was Cedar Lane #1 with John Mchugh, Wade Mchugh, Kyle Mchugh and John Bullington, and fourth place with a score of 63 was Cedar Lane #2 with Terry Russell, Keith Langrehr and Bill Dickman.
Kyle Mchugh placed closest to pin on hole #3; Fred Cheek, closest to pin on holes #8 and #12; and Lou Hammel, closest to pin on hole #16.
Ralph Johnson was tops for the men’s long drive, and Lorrie Schenning for the women’s long drive. Some equipment were provided to the players such as golf cart batteries and Icon golf cart.
“We are very pleased that our sponsors and players made our 15th annual golf tournament a huge success. The money raised goes directly back into the community for worthwhile projects,” said Bill Cox, president of The Greater Bel Air Community Foundation.
