Arrests Made in Harford Square Homicide; Edgewood and Fallston Men Charged with Murder

December 10, 2011 By Dagger News Service 33 Comments

From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:

On Friday, December 9, 2011, Joseph Andrew Nelson, 20, of Edgewater Drive in Edgewood, and Coty Lamonte Wilson, 21, of Mountain Rd. in Fallston, were charged with the murder of Christopher Curtis Alves, 21. Alves was killed in the 1300 Block of Harford Square Drive, O Court, Edgewood Md. Both Nelson and Wilson have been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder and use of a handgun in a crime of violence. Conrad Gaylord, 18, of Brookside Dr. in Edgewood was arrested with Wilson and Nelson. Gaylord was charged with handgun violations related to wearing, transporting or carrying a handgun on or about his person and in a vehicle. Both Wilson and Nelson are being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center. Gaylord is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Leading up to the arrest, detectives determined that on December 8, 2011, at approximately 2:21 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 1300 block of Harford Square Drive O Court for a shots fired call. Deputies checked the area and were unable to locate a suspect or a victim of the shooting. Detectives believe Christopher Alves was fatally shot during that time and that dark window tint on Alves’ vehicle obscured him from view of the deputies. Detectives canvased the area and located witnesses who saw a white Cadillac leave the area immediately after the shooting. Deputies also discovered that Joseph Nelson had been in contact with Alves numerous times in the hours just before his death. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on December 9, 2011, deputies responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint on Harborside Drive in Joppa found Joseph Nelson and Coty Wilson in a white Cadillac with Conrad Gaylord. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. The search of the vehicle yielded the recovery of a handgun and evidence used to determine that both Nelson and Wilson were in the immediate area of the 1300 Block of Harford Square Drive when Alves was shot.

Two of Harford County’s most product citizens, Coty Wilson and Joseph Nelson. I figured that it would take years of armed robberies and assaults before they killed someone but they skipped right up to the big leagues. They should be able to move right back into the same cells they covered in gang grafiti just a few months ago.

Yes, we have a Constitution, and we should follow it. So let’s have a fair trial as soon as possible, and if they are found guilty, as soon as possible after the trial let’s have a public hanging at high noon right there in Edgewood, where their thug buddies can see what happens when you decide to be a bad guy. Maybe that will deter some of these jerks.

They sometimes kill innocent people too. And even when they kill each other, all taxpayers bear the cost of prosecuting and imprisoning them.

Wow, look at the wrap sheets on these guys! Tons of charges over the past several years including assaults, illegal firearms, drug possession/distribution, etc, etc, etc. Tons of Nolle Prosque and Stet Docket dispositions too. It’s a damned shame that the police actually have been doing their jobs, and the courts just keep letting them go. Most of their representation was done on our tax monies too – public defenders. Throw away the keys this time!!!

If you check Maryland Case Search, you’ll see that while this suspect might live in “Fallston” now, his roots are in Baltimore’s ‘hood. No surprise there.

Support your comment with data not speculation. MD Case Search shows them living in Falston. Your desire to read more into the data is purely and simply a wish on your part. It’s bad enough when people tell outright lies, expressing an opinion based on desires and not facts is just as bad.

          Hey David,

“Support your comment with data not speculation. MD Case Search shows them living in Falston. Your desire to read more into the data is purely and simply a wish on your part. It’s bad enough when people tell outright lies, expressing an opinion based on desires and not facts is just as bad.” – MD Case Search shows his current address is in Falston, that is correct. However, as recently as 10/02/2010, he was living in Aberdeen, where he lived for at least a couple of years, as there is an indictment dated 10/15/2008. Prior to that, on 9/16/2003, he was a minor child living in Baltimore City.

So, it appears Beemerman’s assertion that this individual has roots in the ‘hood’ is correct, if one concedes that the ‘hood’ is Baltimore. And just so we know, I do not assert that Baltimore, nor the in Baltimore where Mr. Wilson is from, is the ‘hood’.

          Anyways, have a nice day.

I didn’t search that far back. And I was mistaken. He was of course a minor child in a child support case in 2003 in Baltimore. Someone wasn’t paying their child support I guess. We do have that in Harford County don’t we? Wait, I know we do… because the person I know who married her boyfriend out of prison has four children from three different fathers and none of them pay child support here in Harford County, where she was raised. And used to dance and cheer and play the piano and graduated from Fallston. So is it because she came from Kingsville that she’s on state assistance for food power and medical care, fired from two medical assistant positions and married to a guy who was passing forged prescriptions? Because she didn’t come from Baltimore… she was raised right here in this beautiful paradise where snakes do not exist.

            Hey David,

“I didn’t search that far back. And I was mistaken.” – There were a number of offenses he committed in the last few years.

“He was of course a minor child in a child support case in 2003 in Baltimore.” – Which is what Beemerman said, his roots. Though, to be honest, only one piece of evidence to support Beemerman’s claim that his roots are Baltimore City, though, no evidence to the contrary.

“Someone wasn’t paying their child support I guess.” – That is a shame. A parent needs to take responsibility for thier offspring.

“We do have that in Harford County don’t we?” – Of course we do, but that really has nothing to do with the statement made by Beemerman.

“Wait, I know we do… because the person I know who married her boyfriend out of prison has four children from three different fathers and none of them pay child support here in Harford County, where she was raised. And used to dance and cheer and play the piano and graduated from Fallston.” – I don’t know what this has to do with what Beemerman said. I think you are going off topic here. Did you want to start a new discussion on your friend?

“So is it because she came from Kingsville that she’s on state assistance for food power and medical care, fired from two medical assistant positions and married to a guy who was passing forged prescriptions?” – Again, I think you are going off topic here. Beemerman was talking about the persona rrested, not the person you know.

“Because she didn’t come from Baltimore… she was raised right here in this beautiful paradise where snakes do not exist.” – Again, off topic. However, to discuss this just a little since you want to compare things. Do you think we should compare the crime rates from Baltimore City and Fallston? Do you think Fallston has a murder rate anywhere near that of Baltimore or do you think the number of felons per 100K population is the same between the two locals? I am sure we could do a bit of a google search and look all this up if we wanted to. I do know Baltimore’s violent crime rate is pretty high, and I would suspect Fallston’s is pretty low. Damn, now I went completely off topic with you.

            Anyways, have a nice day.

Concerned Mom, there’s no ambiguity to my point. Harford County is seeing an influx of criminals from Baltimore moving up Route 40, settling in surrounding communities, and bringing their predilection for violent crime with them. They take advantage of the atmosphere here (naive citizens un-used to serious crime, Barney Fife-like sheriff’s deputies, plea-bargaining prosecutors) and run wild.

While I’m sure there’s crime in Fallston, and home-grown thugs in Harford County generally, I can’t recall the last time a young man from Fallston (originally from there, born and raised in the community) committed a murder like this.

While that is true the fondation for behavior is laid by parents who seem to provide alcohol to their minor children as well as 21 others and other similar acts of bad parenting that produces this same kind of reckless and iresponsible person to comitt these crimes. The fact that people in Fallston, Bel Air and other areas, that felt safe because they thought a couple higways protected them from this are now finding that they two are dealing with the problem of gentrification, are just waking up to reality is good but the sad thing is this could have been prevented if they realized that when it started moving up route 40 it was their problem then andnot just now. perhaps they will not stand opposed to efforts to deal with the problem at this point!

Understood. I’m just very frustrated with the “Edgewood” stereotype my children have to deal with daily, its not fair they work very hard in school and my husband and I work hard teaching moral values.

Years ago when people like myself complained about the increase in crime which was being committed by new Harford County residents that moved to our community no one wanted to talk about it or cared because it didnt effect their school or neighborhood. Until Mr. Guess was murdered no one wanted to even listen to the fact the we had gangs in our schools or playgrounds(imagine explaining that to your elementary age daughter that her friends father who was working 3 jobs to support his family will no longer be around).

Around the same time I wanted the City Mayor O’Malley to be held financially responsible for the increase in crime and decrease in property values because I felt the people that were loosing their homes in the city because of outstanding water and taxes and homes that were being bought for a $1 by developers, were being pushed to our community because the subsidized housing availability. Unfortunately, there are no rules or standards with criminals and its starting to creep into other communities like Fallston & Bel Air. Is this what has to happen? Looking up where they were born and adding up how many years they’ve lived in the county and subtracting the year they were born divided by how far down 152 goes is not gonna deter criminals. We work hard and pay taxes as well in Edgewood, maybe not as much taxes as others however we are honest and live within our means. Why does it matter how far down 152 goes?? Also, I hope the “Eastside” realizes that the ACLU will determine where in the County future affordable housing will be, I can tell you it wont be in Edgewood we’ve had our fill. I’m saying this for everyone to please pay attention to this issue Baltimore County is dealing with this now.

IIRC, it wasn’t the public that had a problem with Craig handing out bonuses; it was the unions. The bonuses came along with no effort on their part and were going to be distributed with no input on their part; so until they raised a stink about it, there was no way they could take credit for getting workers more money. They still deserve no credit for getting workers more money; but starting with HCEA, they’re already usurping credit for it.
