Del. Glass: “$35.9 Billion Budget Proposed by Gov. O’Malley is $1 Billion More than Last Year’s Budget and the Largest in Maryland’s History”

February 3, 2012 By A Dagger Reader 21 Comments

From Del. Glen Glass:

This week I’m sending you information on some of the taxes Governor O’Malley introduced as a “balanced approach”, many of which are aimed mostly at the middle class and small businesses.

These tax and fee increases are another burden placed on our citizens, many are out of work and just barely getting by. The $7.5 billion in “historic cuts” over the last six years really equates to Maryland’s budget growing by $1 billion or more every year since 2007 – a 25% increase, the largest in Maryland’s history and then……the toll increases!

In a recent poll, 96% of Marylanders believe they’re paying ENOUGH in taxes. It’s unbelievable when so many are struggling to make ends meet, that they would even think of subjecting Marylanders to this. You’ll hear the phrase “Thousandaires Tax”, which refers to individuals making over $100,000.00 or couples making over $150,000.00.

Reduction or elimination of exemptions and deductions on personal income taxes will affect many of our small businesses because 93% of Maryland’s businesses are LLC’s and business owners file their taxes as individuals. Of all the jobs in the state, 54% come from these very same businesses. For every additional dollar a business will have to pay in taxes and fees, that’s a dollar it doesn’t have to create a new job. Saddest of all, these regressive taxes will harm those who can afford them the least! Yet to come…the Gas Tax which will increase the price at the pump by 20 cents or more per gallon! Also, these budgets use taxpayer money to pay for abortions, which I oppose. Rest assured I will vote against this budget!

TAXES = $287.4 Million (As Proposed)

• Limiting Itemized Deductions on individuals making over $100K and couples making over $150K
• Limiting or eliminating the Personal Exemptions on individuals making over $100K and couples making over $150K
• Reducing the itemized mortgage deductions, charity deductions, and other state deductions on the state income tax for over 400,000 Marylanders.
• Doubling or maybe even tripling the “FLUSH TAX”
• Repeal Income Tax Credit Telecommunications Property Tax
• Requiring the collection of Recordation Taxes on Indemnity Mortgages
• Repeal Maryland-mined Coal Credit
• “Amazon Tax” – collection of sales tax on internet affiliate sites like Amazon
• Tobacco Products Tax (cigars, snuff and loose tobacco) — 70% Increase
• “App Tax” – sales tax on digital products (Apps, ITunes & Kindle Downloads)
• Eliminate exemption on precious metal, coins & bullion, a tax on investments
• Eliminate exemption on the resale of manufactured homes

WTF Who is monitoring where all of these taxes are going? All of these “ear marked” taxes and we still need more. Maybe Annapolis needs to stop
wasteful spending and our Representatives need to start saying no!

How can anyone in Annapolis raise the budget by a billion $ per year and ,with a straight face, ask for more taxes? Then again one may ask why do we,as the citizens of Maryland, keep putting these same buffoons (the dems) back in office again and again and expect different results. Maybe we’re the buffoons.

Smitty – it’s why he is so respected. He engages the public. The Democrats in Annapolis respect Delegate Glass and listen to his thoughtful and intelligent ideas.

Actually social media is an enabler to involve the electorate in the political process. Delaware has an excellent FB page to inform thier citizens. Wish MD had the same thing, however they would not want to be that transparent as we the public if ever fully cognizant of the actions of that house would certainly vote them out of office. Thanks for keeping us informed GG!

Alex, R, you are correct…and in Harford County we decisively picked Glen Glass, a statesman who is doing an AWESOME job and making a real difference! Delegate Glass tells it like it is! I am told that when he takes the microphone on the House floor, the chamber gets silent and the Democrats LISTEN.

Penelope, No argument from me on Glass. I absolutely agree. But the Bible used words to describe another that could easily be applied to Del. Glass. “The voice of one crying in the wilderness . . . ”

As you should know if you have ever in the past read what I have written, when I said that the people are getting what they voted for I was referring to O’Malley, et al. Even Peter Franchot, and I can tell you that his long track record in state govenment shows him to be anything but conservative, is vociferously and publicly opposing Gov. O’Malley’s determination to raise every tax and fee that he can raise.

The people of Maryland have spoken and the majority of them have put the Dem/Libs in power. Ironically, the Dem/Libs have once again turned on many of those who voted for them by pushing very hard for increases in the most regressive forms of taxation. Sadly, many of those being hurt the worst by the tax and fee increases don’t seem to understand that.

No, no they don’t. Glen is not only unprincipled, but stupid. He’s the only member of the Harford Delegation proposing tax increases, even though he ran against them.

He has lied about this issue, and he is untrustworthy. How much does the State pay you to be on his staff?
