Sen. Jacobs Holds Rep. Ruppersberger Accountable in Congressional Debate

October 23, 2012 By Dagger News Service 49 Comments

From the office of Sen. Nancy Jacobs:

When Republican Nominee for Congress (Dist.2), Nancy Jacobs asked Dutch Ruppersberger about the 16 trillion dollar deficit facing this nation in last night’s debate, Dutch advocated taking a “balanced” approach to reining in the debt and spending. Dutch’s record shows he must not want to rein it in much since he recently voted to increase the debt cap. Jacobs believes the incumbent is putting his head in the sand about the unsustainable spending which will wreak further havoc with our economy and leave a sad legacy for our children.

Dutch tried to claim credit during the debate at Warren Elementary School for added jobs at Aberdeen Proving Ground and Ft. Meade due to base realignment. But Nancy Jacobs pointed out it was Republican Bob Ehrlich who got BRAC started, not Dutch. She explains traffic jams at APG are creating havoc in her state Senate District now even now, despite Dutch insisting that he brought home road construction dollars. To date only one intersection has been improved. Dutch bragged about his experience on the Armed Services Committee, not mentioning his party leadership forced him to step down from that post in recent months, which is bad for Maryland where there are numerous military facilities.

On the deaths of our ambassador and other Americans in Libya, Dutch says he doesn’t know why the intelligence was so flawed, even though he is a ranking member of the Intelligence Committee. Nancy Jacobs told the audience America should stand strong globally in the face of terror, yet that isn’t what happened in the immediate response to this tragedy. Dutch also has been critical of intelligence leaks, but according to news reports, his aide reported the death of Osama Bin Laden even before our own president!

In closing remarks Jacobs reminded the audience that while County Executive, Dutch tried to take away people’s private property with eminent domain to make way for developers. There was much applause. Now Dutch is raising most of his campaign funds from special interests, not from actual voters. Nancy Jacobs outraised Dutch if you look at how Maryland citizens donated to the two campaigns.

Hopefully, the citizens of Maryland will wake up. Nancy Jacobs sounds like she is far superior to good old Dutch. He is one more of the spending Democrats who are leading this country down the path to bankruptcy. Too bad I can’t vote for her as I am one of the thousands of Marylanders who have fled the state years ago.

While Nancy Jacobs seems to be intent on using the consulate attacks to spread divisive rhetoric, she is ignoring the fact that Dutch actually has a concrete record of promoting real legislation to strengthen our national security. Last spring he cosponsored CISPA to increase cybersecurity, something she seems to have brushed over.

Isn’t CISPA one of the biggest threats to civil liberties and internet freedom ever passed? It rose from the ashes of SOPA, the thing being protested by everyone from Wikipedia to Google. CISPA forces your internet provider to provide your personal information to the government anytime it deems it to be a cyber threat, without any oversight.

Oh, yes. Big brother is going to watch everything you do on your computer, on your phone, and also erect cameras to see where you go and what you do outside your home. Orwell got it right but even he would be appalled. Shame on the Lib/Dems for helping Big Brother do it. And shame on some Republicans that also helped. Dutch is someone that the Tom Myers group can point to – at least so far -that hasn’t been tainted publicly. One good thing I can say about Dutch is that he only votes in one state as far as we know. Tom, how is that Wendy Rosen debacle working out for you?

She even voted no to lower the age children must wear life vests on the bay. We do not need another “No” Tea Partier, there are enough of them ruining the party in D.C. as it is.

Dutch Ruppersberger has supported the troops since day one. He is a big advocate for not only current troops but veterans to. here is a link to his website about his work with veterans http://dutch.house.gov/veterans.shtml

Nancy Jacobs claims that she will be better, but at the debate she did more attacking then actually listing what SHE would do in office. In Politics as she has put it you need to “walk the walk”. I have not seen her walk the walk. She further claims that people have told her ” I have seen more of you in the last 10 months than I have seen of Dutch in 10 years.” I would like to know where she has been because I have not seen her anywhere… I see Dutch Ruppersberger almost on a weekly basis it seems. it goes to my church, my pool and attends events around the area. Everyone in the area knows who is and what he stands for. My vote will always be Dutch Ruppersberger,he is the clear choice because he votes on both sides of the parties. He works with both sides.

On what happened in Libya this was a tragedy. He knows that, we all know that. Something went wrong that is clear. But blaming and pointing fingers is not going to change what happened. Those 4 Americans are still going to be dead regardless of who is to blame. What needs to be done is to work on why it happened and how. Which Dutch says is happening. It’s still an open investigation.

We have 13 days left until the election. Please make sure you educate yourself on the REAL facts. Dutch has history with this area, he knows this area and what the people need including the military families.

As a Republican I am not a fan of Dutch but nor am I a fan of Nancy. It has been my observation that she is self serving and will throw anybody under the bus for her own political advantage and that includes other Republicans. After she loses this race hopefully she will see the writing on the wall of her newly configured state senate district and retire.

As I was present at the debate, I can clearly say that Ruppersberger dominated the entire time. I’ve been a Republican since I first registered to vote, and I can say that there’s no way that I’d ever cast one for Sen. Jacobs. We need to realize that Dutch is valuable to this entire nation as a great uniting, bipartisan voice in the Intelligence committee, and if he’s out of there, it will probably fall back into gridlock and partisan bickering. That’s why I am voting for Dutch this weekend when early voting starts. A democrat is going to have to be on top in the intelligence committee, and I’d take him over whatever other junk Pelosi finds to throw in there.

Jim is right, Dutch sure did dominate the entire debate. Not only because he has a solid record to back himself up, but because he doesn’t make mistakes like “accidentally” vote for bills he doesn’t mean to, he stands up for what he believes in, even when he doesn’t agree with his party, and because he is a stand up man and a great politician. As a volunteer for Sen. Jacobs campaign, both in the primary and the general, I can attest to the purity of her motives. She is as patriotic as they come, and fears for the future of America. “Tea Party” she is not, as some of her past votes prove. But she does stand for individual liberty, which is the cornerstone of America. She completely P’WNeD Dutch in that debate, BTW. For a life-long politician like him, he should have done better.

to HENRY – divisive rhetoric? Really? Have you kept up-to-date on the Benghazi story, or do you just mimic what you hear on MSNBC? The administration witnessed the attack in real time, had emails confirming who orchestrated the attack (an al-quiada affiliate group), had troops an hour away in Italy, and did NOTHING. And then lied about it. But, but, but, the YouTube video!!!

        powpowpow –

My statements were not meant to sway your opinion.

You are incorrect, not everyone fears for the future of the country. Most poiticians fear for nothing except their own political career. Jacobs can be included in that, to an extent.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the “tea party” is pretty much over. The original goals of the movement continue on through a variety of grassroots efforts, but there are no more TP rallies or gatherings.

        I don’t know what this ‘4chan’ thing is… perhaps you misspelled ‘fortune’….

The bottom line is that Dutch has proven himself unworthy to hold the 2nd district seat in Congress. His vote for ACA is enough for most people who respect the Constitution, but there is is also his hatred of private property rights through eminant domain, his support of invation of privacy via CISPA, his failure to pretect the nation’s security in scenarios such as Benghazi and Ft. Hood. He has made himself invisible to anyone in the district who happens to challenge his intent or his actions. I’ve had several phone calls, emails, and requests for meetings go ignored and unanswered. In fact, all I’ve heard from him over the past 2 years were a few mailings advertising some workshop in which his staff would coach people on how to game the system and milk the entitlements for all they’re worth.

        No thanks.

Relatively speaking, yes! Dutch is bipartisan. According to govtrack.us, the average Dem votes with their party 93.3% of the time. The Average Republican votes with their party 93.2% of the time. Dutch votes with the Dems about 90% of the time. It’s just a fact of politics that MOST of the time, representatives vote with their parties. Dutch does happen to do it less than the average representative, though.

To powpowpow, john from joppa, and thomas –

I don’t want a congressman to be so ‘bi-partisan’ as to break party lines half the time. What I want is for politicians to uphold the Constitution. D and R are guilty of not doing that. For Dutch to claim that he is ‘bi-partisan’ when he is just as partisan as anyone else in Congress is utterly despicable and deceptive. The only times (generally speaking) that he’s broken party were on bills that both parties had support for.

Dutch is a joke, and an afront to the citizens of District 2 and the Constitution.

She does the complete opposite of what she says will do. And how do you hit the wrong button by accident ? I would respect her more if she would admit she had a change of her then to lie and think we are all stupid enough to swallow her lies. Nancy Jacobs is better at attacking then she is coming up with her OWN ideas. She is mad because Dutch called her out. If you are going to try to defame someone at least come up with plausible lies…

This is just rhetoric from the Jacobs’ campaign office in a last ditch attempt to get noticed. Dutch has a strong record both as the Balt. County exec and in congress of working hard for the district and for the country. He has a record of working with his congressmen across the isle in the intelligence committee and of voting through sensible bills. Jacobs on the other hand has a spotty record within the MD state senate, and seems simply out to shoot down any bill a democrat introduce, even if most people in her own party are in favor for it. I am not even in the second district but I wish my own congressman made me as proud as Dutch does.

Dutch was involved in passing the land-grab bill a few years back, the one which allows the politicians to take your land and give it to their developer buddies at a price they decide, if they can claim that the developer has a better use for the land than you do.

As in Kelo vs. City of New Haven. Yep. City said you folks living in these houses are not generating enough income for the city so we are going to take your homes by eminent domain and turn them over to developers who have agreed to better develop the properties with more homes and businesses thereby generating more tax revenue for the city (and profits for their developer buddies in the process). Years later the people are displaced from their homes but the land is still sitting vacant. Were these people rich and famous? No, just average lower class hard working families who didn’t have the right friends in the right places.

I’m sure they are thankful to Dutch for his support.

I am not going to vote for Dutch but neither will I vote for Nancy. During the last election she aligned herself with Democrats especially in the Edgewood community because she needed the African-American vote to hang onto her state senate seat. She even publicly endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for a local seat. It is one thing for a supposed leader of a political party to personally not favor a candidate from your same party, as they say vote your conscious while in the voting booth, but is completed out of line to publicly support the other political party candidate. Her decision to do so was for political expediency – hers. As it was if not for Cecil Co. Republicans she would be out of office now.
