Serious Assault Results in Death of Two-Month-Old Forest Hill Infant; 19-Year-Old Man Charged with Murder of Niece

From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:

Harford County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested and charged a 19 year old man with the attempted murder of his 2-month old infant niece.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday April 18, 2013, and at the request of paramedics from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2000 block of Bay Meadows Court in Forest Hill for a report of an injured baby.

Upon arrival deputies found the paramedics treating a two-month old infant female. Deputies spoke to the grandmother, Rebecca Wolf, 52. Wolf reported the infant was her granddaughter and had been left in the care of Colin Christopher Wolf, 19, of the same address. Wolf told police she had left the home at approximately 9:45pm to go visit family. When they left the baby was asleep in her bassinet. When Mrs. Wolf arrived back home at 10:50pm, she went to check on the child and found the baby had suffered serious injuries. She immediately called 911.

Paramedics treated the baby at the scene and transported the child to the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The baby was later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital where she was initially reported to be in critical condition with life threatening injuries. However, at 10:59 a.m. today (Friday), the baby died.

Immediately upon Rebecca Wolf arriving home, Colin Wolf left the residence. Patrol deputies then searched the area and located Colin Wolf in the 1800 block of Trudeau Court in Forest Hill. Detectives were called and through investigation identified Colin Wolf as the suspect. Preliminary investigation reveals he allegedly struck the child in the face. Colin Wolf was placed under arrest and was initially charged with attempted first degree murder, attempted 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, 2nd degree assault, and child abuse.

He was taken to the Harford County Detention Center where, after being seen by a Harford County District Court Commissioner was ordered held without bail. As a result of the child’s death those charges will be amended and the suspect will be charged with the baby’s murder. He remains incarcerated without bail.

      • Colin was on my school bus last year. He admitted to smoking spice with my ex-boyfriend. I Can honestly Say there Was something wrong with him, but only from excessive Drug use. A final opinion though, the environment that you are brought up in as a child can and WILLL effect the person you become. Shitty parenting, shitty outcome. I don’t understand what is so complicated about understanding that. No-one here knows what went on behind closed doors while he was being raised, but I can tell you one thing, going to highschool with him and living in the same neighborhood as him, watching him pace throughout the neighborhood at random times late at night for years, there was obviously no parenting -no one to teach him about this shitty world. Murder is murder, but his grandmother as well as the mother of the baby are at fault as well. It is not all HIS fault. I only hope that the grandmother has a grand realization at somepoint in her life and has to live with knowing that she failed as a guardian for that baby

      • I have five children, too (all boys, ages 22, 16, 10, 3, and 10 months), and I ALWAYS know where they are. And when they do go out, it’s only for 2 hours or so with friends who I know and trust. I have raised my sons to have compassion in their hearts, and I don’t understand how someone could do this – does this boy have no compassion??

        My 16-year-old has watched my 10-month-old a few times while I ran to the store. He does a great job with him (albeit I only go when he’s napping, but he has woken up before I got back and my son cared for him perfectly). He could never, ever hurt a child, especially an infant! He adores his baby brothers!

        I won’t comment as to how I feel regarding why he was even watching the infant to begin with, because I don’t know the full story; but I can tell you this, I only allow very few select family members watch my babies…and they consist of my older sons, a few older nieces, and my sisters…that’s it! You really have to be careful who you allow to be alone with your babies. I hate hearing stories like this, especially when I think of how preventable this could have been. My heart breaks for the family regardless…I cannot imagine a greater pain than losing a child. May God help them find peace 🙁

      • The grandmother should not get charged with anything. Whenever my mom watched my baby niece and she had to go somewhere quickly, I took responsibility and helped out. I was only 15 watching my infant niece. A lot of people at the age of 19 watch babies and the babies don’t get injured. i’m sure the grandmother feels guilty but it’s time for people in this world to take responsibility for their actions. You people are more worried about charging the grandmother? really? The boy wasn’t proven mentally handicap. The grandmother may not have known her son was under the influence of drugs.     • The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement branch of the County, it’s not up to them to make sure Justice is served; that’s what the Judicial Branch of our government is for.

      Remember in this Country (for those who believe we live in Cuba/Russia), you are innocent until proven guilty.

    • The baby’s grandmother never told the police that Colin is mentally disabled, that is strange. Read the article in the Sun. The judge says she knew within minutes. Colin didn’t know what it meant to plead guilty or not guilty and he didn’t know what a jury trial is. I’m not defending him only saying there is more to this than was printed in the Dagger. The judge has ordered a competency hearing.

    • Being in a special education class doesn’t really mean much. They put the kids who either A. Just didn’t care about school at all and didn’t try B. Mentally I’ll, deaf, and disabled mostly seperated. Most the kids were kids who didn’t care/try. Doctors wanna slap all kinds of labels on kids now a says. So if I got mad and stabbed my fiancé it makes OK because I am “Bi-Polar”? Watch these trials now-a-days.. and honestly if he was so Ill he couldn’t watch a sleeping child no one would have left him alone.

    • Special Education classes mean you learn slowly or differently than other children. I know plenty of people that have learning disabilities that are completely capable of watching a child. So, stating he was in special education doesn’t really matter. You’d have to be insane o do something like this and you wouldn’t only be in special education. more like therapy..everyday.

    • Watch the videos. I do not doubt that he has cognitive and psychiatric issues. What I wondered about were the “friends” or family members who were egging him on, and were obviously aware of the effects of the drug(s) & alcohol on him. Very disturbing. I’m hoping it wasn’t his sister or the baby’s father. Sad for the whole family that a helpless 2-month-old died at his hands.

      Anyone know where the infant’s parents were? I didn’t leave my kids with ANYONE at two months old. Lots of issues all the way around with this one.

My thought process here is what I see as so glaringly obvious but doesn’t seem to be smacking you in the face.. this “challenged” kid was left to entertain himself and his friends with underage drinking and smoking who-knows-what in the funny apparatus while making a few videos. That can’t be denied. He posted it publicly. Which means his mother must know about this. If this happens when she isn’t there and he can’t be trusted alone, what made her think she could leave an 8 week old vulnerable infant with an unpredictable person, even if it is her son? Someone she should know better than to trust with the care of that fragile life? I feel she was not only negligent, but she recklessly endangered and contributed to the death of the baby by leaving her alone with a literal unknown, seemingly high strung individual? She would have been safer locked in a car sleeping in her carseat! The odds would have been in her favor.

      • The mother of the infant was one of the students expelled for calling in bomb threats to schools in harford county. Plus many other offending actions such as fights, bulling, vulgar language and alcohol and drug abuse. Many were filmed and put on youtube. Even when you delete the file, it can be brought back up and used against you.

  16. I also wonder where the Mom was? Is she or the father the true caregivers or have they dumped their responsibility on to the Grandmother? We’re they out drinking and smoking, like Colin was in the videos? It is fair to ask these questions, although it doesn’t negate the fact that Colin killed a 2 month old.

    I just feel the mother, father, and grandmother share some responsibility simply because Colin should not have had the responsibility to care for a two month old.

    It is common knowledge that a 2 month old can wake at anytime!!!! I know for a fact that Colin has special needs and his behavior was unpredictable and could be aggressive. I would imagine that years of abusing alcohol and using drugs will not help the situation at all. The mom and grandmother knew of his unpredictably and aggressively behavior. Therefore, if you have this knowledge, they do hold some responsibility in this situation although it may not be legal responsibility.

    I ask you all a simple question, would you leave your child with Colin if you were the mother, father, or grandmother? I think not!

    • Even if his parents tried to take some action to prevent Colin from hurting someone, the courts would not help them. I see this happening all the time, particularly in Baltimore County. Parents or spouse tries to protect themselves or children in the home and the court just waves it away. The courts won’t pay attention until loss of life occurs. It doesn’t matter if the person is violent or not. Particularly, guys are “getting away with murder”. Then, everybody screams, “why didn’t the parents do something”. The courts enable people like Colin to continue their destruction.

Yes I understand this is public knowledge, but what matter is it to any of you?!? The only thing ANYONE should take from this article is that a baby is in heaven and people are grieving.     • Knowing Colin since he was 4 yrs old I can tell you that he is not able to understand the future in any real way. He doesn’t understand the consequences of his actions. He just doesn’t have that thought process. I don’t know if that means he doesn’t understand right from wrong, but he is a fairly severely disabled boy.

    • Really people with special needs are unfit to watch infants? Well Scott Anderson I have special needs and I know that hurting a child is wrong. Sure I don’t always have the most patience with people but when it comes to my nieces and nephews I have all the patience in the world! They brighten my day when I am down and they make me laugh I have been watching my nieces and nephews from my sisters since I was 13!!! NEVER once were they ever harmed so saying ‘someone with special needs is unfit to watch a child’ is wrong!! Please think before you stereotype people.

Jesus was crisified after all and many more before and after that were put to death. He deserves the death penalty and more. Do I agree that this man should not of been left with this baby. Yes I do.   27. Its all right Ed you can have your backwards assed opinions its a free country. But the fact is when they do Colins mental evaluation (if they haven’t already) it will be clear to the Judge what they are dealing with. And what the Judicial system is dealing with is a person with a mental disability and special needs who has anger problems and was unsupervised while put in charge of an infant. The plea of insanity will come into play and Colin will spend the rest of his life in a mental institution. Even in a county that has a bunch of dumb hicks like Ed in it, our Judicial system isn’t dumb enough to screw this one up. But if I was to guess I’m guessing this isn’t going to be resolved by the good ol boys in Harford County it will be going to a higher court due to the complexity of the case. And just to clarify what mental retardation is for those who don’t know any better, Mental Retardation is not a medical disorder or a mental disorder it is subnormal intellectual functioning which starts during the developmental period and is associated with impairment of learning and social adjustment or maturation and specifically categorized as a person with an IQ below 70.   29. Colin is a victim of the environment that he was raised in. I graduated from Bel Air high school in 2012, and i went to school with colin for about 3 years untill he was sent to alternative school. I can’t even tell you how many times i saw kids of various ages harassing him, making fun of him, telling him loads of bull****, there’s even YouTube videos of kids around the neighborhood getting him drunk and giving him drugs. A mentally challenged person should not be in the care of a 2 month old baby. I am 19 years old, completely normal and responsible, and even I would feel incompetent to care for a 2 month old baby. It’s a full-time, every minute of every hour job, and the grandmother of that child made a decision that ultimately led to the death of her own grandchild. I am not condoning what Colin did by any means, but his mental instability is what led him to do such a crime. His mother obviously does not know how to raise her kids, considering she was doing absolutely nothing to help Colin’s mental disability, according to the police report, he was NOT on any medication and he had not seen any social worker/counselor of any kind in months. She deserves the jail time more than anyone else, and Colin deserves a chance to be rehabilitated in a mental institution where he can get the care that he needs. He is not a monster, I know for a fact that underneath his “hardcore” front is a boy that never got the correct care for his mental disability.

I remember him being a nice kid back then, but the freedom he had for that long with the mental condition he has lived with and the poor parenting he had received created a recipe for disaster. Maybe the mother had to run to get diapers, wipes, or formula and didn’t want to wake her infant so late and asked her brother to keep an eye on her for a hour or so.   102. Obviously he got high, that doesn’t make him mentally challenged. Even if he was a little mentally challenged, clearly they thought he was stable enough to watch his niece. It’s not the moms fault, she didn’t know that he was going to hurt/kill her baby, the grandma didn’t know it either. It’s his fault. Plain and simple. By the way while I think arguing over grammar is stupid, when it’s not a out that it’s about the baby and the family, the correct term is mentally challenge/mental retardation. Depending on what is wrong with the person. An eye for an eye is kind of stupid. My brother was murdered in April as well. The got that killed him got killed about three weeks ago. He was shot and killed as well, but he suffered, my brother however, did not. Even though karma is a b****! I still would have much rather him rot in prison, just so he could live with the guilt of what he did. I wouldn’t want the family to go through what my family went through. Another thing as for him being mentally challenged, if that was the case they would have plead insanity during trial. Which means that he could go to an asanasylum, get on meds, and serve no time in jail. So the whole mentally challenged thing is out the window.

  103. Can I just say something although it is a year late… Special needs people are not dangerous. My brother has a speech impediment, is special needs, and borderline autistic. AND LET ME TELL YOU he is the best uncle for my 2 year old Daughter. He plays with her and gets her smiling and laughing.. So don’t use special needs as an excuse. He did this horrible thing to such a beautiful life. He is 19, which makes him a man. Special Needs or not, he needs to take up the responsibility of what he did. And as for the mother and grandma… everyone deserves a small break. Being a young mom is a hard job and every once in a while it is nice to go out and get a small break. And the grandma had to go run some errands. would you rather let the 19 year old murderer drive to run those errands? no. I do believe if i was in the grandma’s shoes i would have found someone else to watch the baby if i knew the person available was A. dangerous and murder-like or B. mentally ill. My brother has watched my child and did perfect with her. Dang some of you cant get facts from opinions.. Dont mix the two together… GEEZ!!! May God watch over this sweet baby girl in heaven and her family. May God have Mercy on the 19 year old’s soul, he will need it when the Lord has a word with him. Happy 1st Birthday Aubree. So sorry for the family’s lost.

  104. This whole article is all wrong ! Harford county messed up once again . Colin Wolf is NOT guilty for the murder of Aubree Elizabeth . He didn’t hurt Aubree .
