Rep. Harris Votes to Repeal Obamacare

May 16, 2013 By Dagger News Service 33 Comments

From the office of Congressman Andy Harris:

Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. released the following statement on his vote this evening to repeal The Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – and lay the foundation for patient-centered reforms that actually improve the quality and access to healthcare.

He also participated in a press conference this afternoon with other members of the GOP Doctors Caucus to raise awareness about the over 20,000 pages of regulations associated with Obamacare.

“The American people deserve a healthcare system that is patient-centered, improves quality and access to care, and lowers costs,” said Harris. “Unfortunately, Obamacare does none of these things. With the IRS targeting groups based on political affiliation, why would we want them running our healthcare? Obamacare was a bad idea when Washington Democrats passed it, and now we are watching the train wreck as it’s being implemented. Obamacare is clearly not the right way to go, so that’s why I voted today to repeal it, laying the foundation for healthcare reform that works.”

The 38 attempts by the likes of Representative Andy Harris have cost the American taxpayers an estimated 52 million dollars attempting to repeal Obamacare. What has Representative Harris done in Washington since he was seen crying, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oO-PBFWveA and complaining that he has to wait for his government paid healthcare to become effective. What has he done to create jobs? What has he done to fix the problem of people that lose their health care when the job goes overseas? What has he done to fix the problem of people attempting to buy elections and election results? Representative Harris needs to be retired in the next election.

What have you done to find out what Rep. Harris has done? What have you done since you began complaining about what Rep. Harris has done? Have you tried to find a job? Have you tried to keep your job from going overseas? You might consider retiring…by the way if you’re so very interested in what Rep. Harris has done all information regarding his voting record and his activities as your Representative are available online. You might even call his office – he has a young, ambitious, and extremely responsive staff that really like to assist. You might not like his politics but to pretend he’s doing nothing is dishonest.

Considering Andy Harris is our representative and MacG isn’t I could care less what MacG has done since complaining about Harris, and frankly do not see how MacG’s activities are relevant. With that said, I do care about what Harris is doing (you know, since he is allegedly representing the interests of my district) and his voting and legislative record consists of half-hearted attempts at legislation (proposing term limits that conveniently go into effect AFTER he has served the current maximum), a predictable voting record (whatever the GOP majority wants, without question), and ridiculous overreach (demanding the Justice Department enforce Federal drug laws in CO and WA, regardless of the fact that changes were made democratically and with majority support). I can’t find a single piece of legislation he has coauthored or supported that benefits my district or our state as a whole. Not a single piece of legislation. He also voted against the VWA, an act that is only controversial if you believe the debunked anti-VWA talking points or live in a La-La Land where you believe domestic violence and rape are nonexistent. Harris is a failure as a representative, and it is unfortunate that as a district we can’t look past petty politics to see how little he has helped us as our representative.

I’m actually a bit overwhelmed by the “benefits” that have been bestowed on Maryland – we’ve got plenty of democrats out there making sure we have enough “benefits” given to us. I’m rather quite happy with having less by way of “benefits” because I know ultimately all “benefits” boil down to using my tax dollars in ways that seldom benefit anybody. Heck I wish most all members of the government would just sit there and do almost nothing – I’d rather most of them just went home and quit altogether cooking up schemes to benefit us.

well, obviously the recession didn’t have any effect on your financial situation, unlike the majority of people out there in the country. Oh, did I say majority, meaning the greater number of voters. Apparently you have forgotten that government is for the people and by the people and not for the rich and by the rich as you seem to think it is. For every tax dollar spent to improve the condition of life in the country we live in and not spent on the destruction of other countries and their citizens, is a great thing in my opinion. GOD BLESS OBAMA, the president who promised change, but instead got defamed, all in the name, of the Republican’s shame.

Oh yeah, I’ll tell you what he has done. He, like the rest of the GOP controlled house, has wasted the time, money and trust of the voters that put him there. Absolutely no progress can come from the repeated votes to repeal ObamaCare, as they know that whatever they do will never get by the President or the Senate. The continued wasting of the taxpayer’s money and time, while allowing the country to fester with inaction, is an act of treason in my opinion. These wonderful Representatives would rather the country to suffer, than to act in a responsible manner that could finally lift us out of the economic crisis, that the former Republican run Administration left current. It seems to me that it is more important to the GOP to make sure that the nation’s first black president is remembered as a wash and not perform their sworn duties to the citizens of the US. Quite frankly, its sickening and can only be construed as an willing act of fiduciary irresponsibility that continues to haunt our economy, our lives and the lives of our children that will inherit the damage caused by both parties not being able to compromise and the legacy of the Racism that caused it. Great job, Mr. Harris and the rest of the GOP, no wonder your parties mascot is a “JACKASS”.

52 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what obamacare is going to cost us down the road. Obama made the IRS the enforcement arm of obama care. That really inspires confidence. So if you’re a conservative who doesn’t buy government mandated insurance you’re really screwed.

Ideologues–whether of the Left or Right–make for wholly ineffective “leaders” in a democratic republic (Ideologue: “An adherent of an ideology, esp. one who is uncompromising and dogmatic”). We need more Liberal Republicans or Moderate Democrats. Teddy Roosevelt, I believe, once said “If you want to be a leader, you had better have followers.”

Convictions are, indeed, important. “Uncompromising and dogmatic” (e.g., Rep. Harris) convictions result in stagnation, frustration, and d(r)eadlock.

        @Bear

Liberals will always meet in the middle on a tax increase.

They build a cushion into the increase and reduce it by 50%.

And that’s compromising the liberal way.

You take a 100% bad idea and make it only 50% bad.

There is value in meeting in the middle. If you can’t see that then you are the one that needs introspection to assess what is wrong with the duel to the death taking place in Congress. Progress is made with input and compromise from both sides of the aisle.

Why would you ever meet in the middle of bad legislation? For example – a bill could propose the death penalty for 50 of the worst criminals each year. One might say that’s a little extreme – I’d agree with only 25, but not 50. I realize it’s a crazy example but it’s an example of something that isn’t very good to begin with – and the goal does not justify simply doing something. Obamacare never touches the areas that would be easiest to realize cost reductions (TORT reform) – why? Could it be that the trial lawyer lobby is deeply embedded with this administration? How about the insurance industry – nothing said about opening up interstate insurance and competition. No, this bill does not require compromise, it requires a torpedo and a fresh start on the real issues.

Liberals have successfully moved conservatives to the
      middle.

50% of the country pays no federal income taxes, so we’re
split as a nation down the middle.

Liberals tax the 50% of the people who do pay
taxes at about 50% their income when you include
federal, state & property taxes. So they found the
      middle once again.

Why should conservatives strive for the middle
on bad policies and confiscatory laws?

Liberals aren’t satisfied with half a loaf and never
      have been.

Liberals want the 100% of the loaf.

How stupid do I think people are? Pretty damn stupid. They elected Obama. They elected Pelosi. The elected Reid. They elected O’Malley. They allowed the government to pass Obamacare when 70% of them were against it. They bought houses they were never going to be able to pay for. They are allowing the State Department to skate on Benghazi. They have forgotten Brian Terry, an employee of the government who was killed because of their illegal policies and programs. $50 million? Hell, Michelle Obama spent that flying her friends around the world for birthday parties and vacations.

And there is nothing worse than a bunch of fanatics dedicated to destroying the thing they swore to serve and protect for the benefit of all.
