Del. Szeliga: “House Republicans Have Better Solutions for a Better Maryland. We Believe in Tax Relief for All”

January 26, 2014 By Dagger News Service 10 Comments

From Del. Kathy Szeliga:

Off to a slow start, as usual…

We don’t stop for snow or holidays! The 2014 Legislative Session began on January 8 and will end on Monday, April 7. The Maryland General Assembly meets for 90 days each year for a regular session. I do not anticipate any special sessions this year because it’s an election year. Generally speaking, things start out slowly and end with a chaotic rush of legislators trying to push bills through before the clock strikes midnight on the 90th day.

If you would like to come visit the Maryland General Assembly, please do not hesitate to let me know. I would be thrilled to met with you and arrange a tour of our beautiful historic State House. We meet on Monday evenings at 8 PM, and Tuesday through Friday during the day. Just shoot me an email at Kathy.szeliga@house.state.md.us and we can help make that happen.

Welcome Back to Our Short Video Updates!

This year, Delegate Sue Aumann and I will again be making short videos giving you a look into your government and current issues facing lawmakers in Annapolis.

Please take a look at our latest video.

Next week, I’ll be providing you with a summary of the Maryland Health Exchange (MD Obamacare program) and all the problems the program has faced and continues to experience.

Money Issues Facing Annapolis
Better Ideas & Better Solutions

The O’Malley/Brown FY2015 budget sets overall spending at $39.2 billion dollars – $9.6 billion more than when he took office in 2007. This represents a 32% increase in state spending.

This $9.6 billion spending increase equates to an additional $4,600/year when spread across Maryland’s 2.1 million households.

How else would your family spend that additional $4,600 per year?

Despite the 80+ tax, fee and toll increases of the O’Malley/Brown Administration, his budget still has to steal from pensions and dedicated funds to balance. Those funds will be replenished by borrowing money and increasing the state debt. O’Malley has maxed out the state’s credit cards and is leaving without paying the bill. Marylanders will be footing an extra $500 million/year interest payment bill that will surely lead to higher property taxes.

After continual spending increases, Governor O’Malley has the audacity to claim that he has CUT state spending by $9.1 billion. How can you cut the budget while increasing it by 32%?

House Republicans have Better Solutions for a Better Maryland. We believe in tax relief for all. We believe you best know how to spend your money. We are championing a 10% reduction in the personal income tax rate to alleviate a portion of the oppressive burden the O’Malley/Brown Administration has placed on Maryland’s families.

It’s time for tax relief for ALL Maryland families.
Thanks for your support and prayers! I’m working hard for you and your family in Annapolis.

Kathy

The delegate would have the state of Maryland forget that our Maryland Constitution requires a balanced budget. Since that’s so, please propose some ideas as to what businesses tax credits to cut so that when you cut taxes that the least able to afford to lose their hard earned benefits would not lose out. Cuts to transportation, education, fire and safety as well as environmental programs off the table and finance your “tax relief” by cutting from the rich since they can better afford one less tax credit for solar energy, capital gains, business exemptions and general tax free zones that don’t really benefit anyone but the businesses seeking to make a quick buck of the state of Maryland. Memo to the republicant’s in Maryland, you won’t win an election for the governorship because your tea party policies don’t work here like they work in Texas. While I agree that ours is a high tax state but at he same time it is a state of growth and wealth. In fact most high tax states are not suffering the economic downturn of the past few years as badly.

82 billion in debt and your balanced budget arguement is a joke when pension and retired health benefits aren’t counted in that number. But please, continue to dazzle us with liberal bs,

Maryland’s budget is balanced every year. Unfunded liabilities going forward are funded at some of the highest levels in the nation. Maryland has shown to be able to balance growth, wealth and prosperity while tending to the needs of our State. if you don’t like it here you are more than welcome to move to another territory in the USA. Would it be the high wages in Maryland that actually keep you here? or the fact that you can more easily get a job, get to work or enjoy our parks and recreation that keeps you in Maryland?

$82 billion in liabilities are being funded and Maryland doesn’t actually run a deficit because our Maryland Constitution requires it!!! Got it IDIOT???

Unfunded liabilities are funded at the highest levels in the nation? You must be a politician.

When the state and federal cuts come, and they will have to come, you won’t be so smug.

The OweMalley plan; lets implement over 40 new taxes and fees and then we will steal a billion dollars from the transportation trust fund. To add insult to injury, we will tax rainfall and now make you pay to drive on roads that tax payers finance in the first place and give free benefits like in state tuition and drivers licenses to ILLEGALS.

Well said MUFFMOUTHSKI!! Let’s not forget other O’malley boondoggles. How about the billion dollar State complex in Balto. City ( which is hung up in litigation), the 107 million dollar and 3 years wasted on O’Malley care and the windmill project off Ocean City. Remember when we were told the lottery, kino, racetrack, mega millions etc. and the 100’s of millions of $ generated a month by the casinos were going to make MD solvent? If you give a democrat a million $ they’ll spend 5 million.

” WE BELIEVE IN TAX RELIEF FOR ALL.” ! Do delegates Szeliga and her party colleagues really believe all Maryland taxpayers “suffer” from an “oppressive tax burden” — that all Maryland taxpayers need “relief” ? Believing in tax “cuts” for all is one thing; believing that all taxpayers “suffer” from taxes is another. And Republicans, in Maryland and nationwide, wonder why they have difficulties winning popular elections. Perhaps Alexander Hamilton, Republican economic guru, expressed their philosophy best — “The masses of people–they seldom judge or determine right.”
