Good news, everyone: after several days of phone calls from the GDC and other antifascists, VFW Post 5838 in Joppa, MD has given us verbal confirmation that they are canceling an upcoming white supremacist concert that was booked at their hall. The event was being organized by hate groups Label 56, Keystone United, and Maryland Skinheads.

Let this be a message to fascists everywhere: you are not welcome in Maryland. Our communities won’t stand for it.

We are awaiting written confirmation from the VFW, and will update information when we get it.

This is in regards to a white supremacist event supposedly being held in Joppa this Saturday. There has been a call out to shut this event down by local anti-fascists and anti-racists.

At 5:30 PM on March 25, white nationalists from throughout the region will be assembling at the Joppatowne Memorial VFW Post 5838 at 501 Pulaski Highway for a St Patrick’s Day gathering. The 11th annual event was recently announced on hate site Stormfront.org and is being coordinated by Baltimore area far-right record label Label 56. In light of the recent election of Donald Trump and the subsequent emboldening of white nationalism, the potential for this event to draw large numbers of militant white supremacists to recruit, network, and organize is significant.

Label 56 distributes racist skinhead music CDs, videos, and merchandise. An article from anti-fascist research group One People’s Project indicates that “Label 56 is the music outlet for a violent neo-Nazi gang called Maryland State “Skinheads” (MDS). MDS head Jason Tankersley, while more involved with their Mixed Martial Arts arm has some organizational input over Label 56 as well.” A link for Label 56 appears on the homepages of several other Northeastern racist skinhead groups, including the Keystone State Skinheads, American Thule Society, and the Vinlanders Social Club. Maryland State Skinheads, Keystone United and Supreme White Alliance members are regular attendees.

The guestlist has also included Matthew Heimbach, founder of the controversial White Student Union at Towson State and its successor the Traditionalist Youth Network. In 2015, he gave a speech which urged, “That the time has come for white people of all religions to stand up together to fight that which intends to destroy us and our culture.” Steve Smith, Republican county committeeman for Luzerne County PA and co-founder of Keystone State Skinheads (known as Keystone United since 2009), has also been an attendee.

This event is indicative of the rise of white supremacism and the growing organizational capacity of the far-Right nationally. The Ku Klux Klan, and specifically the East Coast Knights of the True Invisible Empire, have been distributing flyers locally in Ellicott City, Towson, and Bel Air, and as far away as North Carolina. It is important to oppose the increasing Neo-Nazi presence together. Time is of the essence. The Mid-Atlantic General Defense Committee (GDC) is monitoring developments in Maryland and working with at-risk communities to respond as they emerge. The GDC encourages everyone to get involved in taking an active stance now.

    • Nothing would happen. You know what would happen? Your former president would have embraced it. The media would have covered it. Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would have been praising BLM on TV.

      When and wherever this group assembles, I would bet they don’t go breaking store windows, loot, burn police cars, and everything else BLM receives praise for. All we ever hear is “They’re the few bad ones. They don’t represent what BLM is about.”

      Well, these are a few extremists that don’t represent what all white people are about. This has nothing to do with Trump. They were in existence long before Trump. However BLM has everything to do with Obama. BLM was created on his watch. Think about that.

      • What this article doesn’t say is that this shut down was largely organized by anarchists. If there’s one thing that anarchists do, it’s direct action.

  5. People should embrace who they are and be proud of their race and traditions. People should also be aware that we live in a country where everyone, regardless of race, religion or individuality, should be treated equally and in a light that each and every one of us wish to be treated. I am a white, 44 year old male of Irish, German and English descent. I am a direct relative of John Adams and John Quincy Adams. I am proud of my ancestry and to the best of my knowledge, my line is strictly Caucasian in origin. However, I wish to rule no one and I only pass judgements on those who have wronged or judged me. I urge everyone else to follow this mantra. Be who you are, yet respect those whom are unlike you. This includes those of different races, religions, backgrounds and politics. We are all in this together and are all Americans. We ALL bleed blood red. I can not support or attend any rally that sponsors the supremacy of any race, religion or political affiliation, yet I will not interfere with the free speech of others. Even if their message is one that I do not agree with or am strongly opposed to. Everyone should stop looking at the colors of our skin which divide us and start thinking of things that unite us. Common ground is much more palatable than any trench or No Man’s Land that I’ve ever heard of. There is a common enemy to every one of us. They sit in Annapolis and Washington D.C. thru positions of power that seek to control each and every one of us, regardless of your race, religion or view points. Those are the ones who you really should be concerned about. Those are your real enemies…..

    • “Whiteness” isn’t a culture. Irish, German and English are cultures and languages. I doubt you speak any language form the Caucus mountains. “Caucasian” used to describe people of European descent is mostly a racist terminology, just as “white” is.

      John Quincy Adams became a powerful advocate for the abolition of slavery.

      While you say you won’t interfere with free speech, will you interfere with those who would organize genocide, slavery and segregation? What would John Quincy Adams do?

      • Caucasian is the correct term we use to describe people that are or are of the fair colored skin race that you term as “white” or “whiteness”. I do not know where you were going with the whole culture thing, yet you are aware that Irish, German and English cultures were of white lineage, or to use the correct term of our day “Caucasian”. Yes, you are right, my ancestors did advocate the abolition of slavery and I have the same values concerning that subject. Now, you are trying to coincide slavery, genocide and segregation into the topics of free speech. I’m not so sure that the group that is putting on this event is prescribing genocide or slavery to anyone, yet segregation may be on their topic list. If people, by their own choice, wish to segregate themselves from other members of this society, then so be it. We both know that segregation in schools, restaurants, bathrooms and buses no longer exists in this society in a public forum. If it does, it is a civil offense and would be handled as such. So whatever they got to say, especially to a group of like minded individuals, is no concern of mine. You already know that I do not subscribe to that train of thought. As for what John Quincy Adams would do, I don’t know. You would have to ask him, but he has long passed away so that question will have to remain unanswered.

  11. I say let them keep talking and giving us information that we otherwise wouldn’t be able to access. I know me as a lack man living in this county will be there along with many others monitoring this event. Camera in hand. I love it when ppl show their true face. I bet you’ll see a lot of your classmates and coworkers, and even some of your neighbors there. Name an easier way to get this kind if information.

      • Free speech in this country is not limited to just those who you agree with. When you step on free speech you dishonor those who have fought for that right, many who lost their lives to ensure that right.

        • Not all speech is protected speech. For example: obscene speech, defamatory speech, speech inciting violence, child pornography and speech used to threaten violence are not constitutionally protected under most circumstances.

          • But you first have to hear what is being said to determine if the speech meets the definition of not constitutionally protected.

  12. It was very irresponsible of “The Dagger” to publish this article. It is basically a call to prevent a group of citizens from exercising their constitutional right to peacefully assemble. This “General Defense Committee” sounds like a group of kindred spirit to the violent BLM rioters and the campus thugs who shut down free speech they disagree with. If there is violence, it will come from the bunch who wrote this article, not the people planning to meet at the VFW.

        • No Lou’s not. In fact, Lou is exercising his 1st Amendment right. He didn’t try to prevent the post or suggest the person who posted had no right to do so. Disagreement about actions and the content of speech is constitutionally protected speech as is your assertion misleading as it may be.

  13. FIRST, let me say as a Veteran I’m pretty pissed off the VFW did not do any damn research on who they rent these halls out too. I’m conservative leaning and would be just as upset if they rented it PETA for a meeting (People Eating Tasty Animals).

The Rt 40 Republican Club several years back had the audacity to host Mr. Heimbach right in the Harford County Sheriffs office. So your White Nationalist was actually spitting his nonsense in a Harford County Government Building. With all due respect to now Sheriff, that was under “Hug a Thug” Jesse Bane. Its one of the reasons as conservative leaning voter I chose not to be a member of the Rt 40 Republicans… when they hosted that clown it told me everything I needed to know about them expanding the tent.

  14. If the VFW is going to rent to anyone they have to rent to everyone. I may not agree with what those folks have to say but just like the A-holes from the Westboro Baptist Church or BLM they have a right to peaceably assemble and say pretty much whatever they want. This is America and free speech is free for everyone not just those who you agree with. By attempting to curtail their right you essentially help prove their point.

A bartender can refuse you when you’re drunk, because you have already had enough or too much. They can get sued if they serve a drunk and the drunk does something damaging. You must wear a shirt, especially if the store has a sign that says “Shirt Required”, same thing applies to shoes. Once again they are protecting themselves from liability. You can call your boss an asshole, he can also fire you. You disrespected your boss and he has control over his employees. You can go into a Outback Steakhouse and eat you’re McDonalds, however they probably will ask you to buy something or leave. I did not lose a legal battle. I am the victim of an Organized Crime Syndicate and a Terrorist Organization known as the Maryland Criminal Justice System. My rights were violated, crimes were committed against me, both Federal and State penal codes violated, my property was racketeered by terrorists employed by the State and I was extorted to take a conviction to get that property back after being held in jail indefinitely until I took an illegal Plea Bargain. That property was used to pay Federal and State taxes, which I might add the State of Maryland nor the US Government has received a dime from me since. This is due to an illegal and unconstitutional conviction and another fraudulent conviction, both which left me undesirable to employ forever because of false testimony instilled into the court record by ASA Christopher Mark Tabone.

I read it and said that it seems we ALL are protected classes. You can’t quote me once saying white supremacist are a protected class thru this whole exchange. That is because I have never said or inferred that white supremacists are a protected class. You then went on about gays and bakers, about how you can refuse anyone you like at your business and their is nothing anyone can do about it. I showed you documentation that contradicts you. You have fought an imaginary battle against something that was never said. Yes, we are done here….
