Six-Run Fourth Inning Gives Harford Baseball 11-1 Win Over Quinsigamond

BEL AIR, Md.—A six-run fourth inning gave the Harford baseball team the 10-run differential it needed to down visiting Quinsigamond, 11-1 (7 inn.), on Monday night at Harford Baseball Field. The game between the Fighting Owls (7-4) and the Wyverns (0-1) was a last-minute pick-up, after Quinsigamond’s originally scheduled game at CCBC-Essex was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

Harford Baseball Field needed some work prior to the first pitch, but was in good enough condition to endure Monday’s game, which saw the teams brave moderate to heavy rains and cold, windy conditions in order to play.

Harford took an early lead in the first as sophomore Woody Wlodarczyk (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) hit a fielder’s choice down the third-base line with freshman Alex Riley (Newark, Del./A.I. Dupont/Wesley) on third. Riley bolted for the plate ...Continue Reading

2010 Harford Men’s Lacrosse Outlook: Youth and Speed

From the HCC sports desk:

Blink and you might miss the Harford men’s lacrosse team. The 2010 Fighting Owls squad is a speedy bunch, with more than half of its 29 players under 165 pounds, but that doesn’t mean that Harford lacks strength and power. The Owls have brawn where every team needs it most—on defense.

And the Harford backfield squad is experienced with three players returning from last season, while the midfield boasts five returners. All in all, head coach Ed Augustitus’s 2010 squad has a good mix of new and old with nine veteran players, but he’ll be the first to tell you that offensively the Owls are young.

Losing your top three scorers (Chad Palmer, Andrew Gilpin, Joe Rosenklde) can hurt, but Augustitus is confident that the team he has put together this year will continue to propel the program upwards.

Women’s Lacrosse Scrimmage Cancelled

From the HCC sports desk:

BEL AIR, Md.–The women’s lacrosse scrimmage against Magerk’s club team, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. has been cancelled due to snow accumulations from the record snowstorms that blanketed the Mid-Atlantic region in February.

Harford had planned on removing the snow on Wednesday morning, but the rapid melting of snow has saturated the ground surrounding the Harford Stadium turf field to the point that snow removal equipment cannot drive on the surface.

The women’s lacrosse scrimmage against Wilmington is still scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m., but will likely be cancelled if the Northern Maryland area receives additional snowfall on Thursday. The Fighting Owls are scheduled to open their season next Tuesday, Mar. 2 at CCBC-Catonsville and will play their home-opener on Mar. 12 when they host Nassau.
