Passaro: “In Spite of the Recession, This Can Be a Real Jump Start to Harford’s Economy”

From Tony Passaro of the Bel Air Tea Party Patriots:

After reviewing the facts inherent in the Beechtree project, I have decided to throw my full support into this endeavor as I find its implementation is in the best interests of Harford County and its Taxpayers.

I am disappointed at the opposition as most of it is uninformed, illogical, irrelevant, inflammatory, specious and nothing more than derogatory braying. It is not even worth the effort to rebut.

This leads me to believe that the real opposing agenda is political and designed to disparage the County Government as a group and the County Executive as an individual…. What irks me is that some erstwhile Patriots would put political expediency and self aggrandizement above the benefit to the people of this county…..

The Tea Party, and Tony Passaro, are guided by principles, not personalities or parties. In ...Continue Reading

Tea Party to Picket Rep. Kratovil’s Bel Air Office

Bel Air Tea Party organizer Tony Passaro has issued the following call to picket Congressman Frank Kratovil’s Bel Air office over health care reform:

Frank Kratovil, self styled “Blue Dog Democrat” (a Democrat that purportedly votes Conservative) is in reality a “Yellow Dog” (a fake Conservative that kisses Pelosi’s Butt).

Kratovil is wavering on whether or not he should vote to support Obamacare….

Let’s help him make up his mind………

Come on out with the Bel Air Tea Party Patriots as we picket Frankie’s office on Main Street in downtown Bel Air (cattycorner and south of the Green Turtle) and remind him that his re-election depends on his voting AGAINST Obama’s Health Care Bill.

See you in front of Frankie’s Office on the 16th. Tuesday, March 16th from 4-6pm.

Harford Tea Party Demand: “What is the County Leadership Doing to Eliminate the Cost of Illegals in our County?”

The following e-mail was sent from Bel Air Tea Party organizer Tony Passaro to local officials, including Harford County Executive David Craig, all members of the Harford County Council and selected members of the Harford Delegation. A copy was provided to The Dagger for publication:

I thought you would like to know what is taking place in Harford County regarding our tax payer dollars to Illegal Aliens in our communities. I think this is something you might want to look at further and do something about.. This kind of waste is very disheartening to our Tax Payer especially during a recession.

I know we have electronic check off (thank you D. Craig) but we need more.

This is very upsetting to the taxpayers..

Therfore the TEA PARTY ASKS, NO DEMANDS to know What is the County Leadership doing to eliminate the cost of illegal’s in our County???

Whiteley: “We Are Watching Your Actions During This Legislative Session”

The following letter was sent by Roy Whiteley, president of Marylanders for Fair Property Taxation:

Last evening we were privileged to speak before an estimated 3,000 cold, but determined, enthusiastic, patriots assembled in Lawyers Square in front of the State Capitol to join in voicing the concerns of a constituency dissatisfied with the way our government is operating.

A number of organizations lead by Americans for Prosperity together with Campaign for Liberty, Institute for Liberty, Annapolis, Bel Air, Cecil County and Hagerstown Tea Party, Marylanders for Fair Property Taxation, Maryland Taxpayers Association and others provided several hours of specific, high spirited rhetoric aimed at one theme. We are watching your actions during this legislative session. We are in tough economic conditions and you need to listen to us and act appropriately. Many legislators and former Governor Bob Erhlich were in the audience. Prior to the 7 PM rally, we had the ...Continue Reading

Harford 2009: The Dagger’s Top Ten Stories Of The Year

Filed as Local Ink with 18 comments

by Brian

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

The year 2009 opened on a sad note in Harford County with residents still mourning the death of prominent, longtime school superintendent Jacqueline Haas. Before the year was over, Harford County would lose two other wellknown female leaders – former delegate Joanne Parrott and Harford County Councilwoman Veronica Chenowith.

It was also a year of contradiction. Even as President-Elect Barack Obama slowed his inaugural train ride through Edgewood in January to wave and thank a thousand or so supporters, there were a thousand or so more Harford County residents who fought tooth-and-nail in September to prevent President Obama’s live address to be shown to their children during the school day.

Bel Air High School was demolished and Fallston Library was spared from closure. Art Helton survived another political scandal in Aberdeen while Harford County’s delegation to the Maryland General Assembly played a furious and humiliating game of musical chairs in Annapolis.

Citizens were ...Continue Reading

Wright: “I Believe The Present Administration Is Truly Befuddled”

The following letter was distributed by Stephen Wright. A copy was provided to The Dagger upon request. It has been edited only to remove contact information:

Harford Co citizens need strong, common sense leadership to face the challenges the future is bringing to us. We are fortunate that Harford County is in high demand. BRAC will bring prosperity in the form of more jobs, both skilled and unskilled, a situation unparalleled in our history. The possibilities are almost mind-boggling! As a result, Harford County needs strong, common sense leadership if we are to fully realize this potential. I will provide that kind of leadership – that is why I am running for Harford County Executive, and I am asking you to support my candidacy.

I believe the present administration is truly befuddled. Either by direct action or indecisiveness the present administration has impeded the private business sector from ...Continue Reading

Passaro: “Come Join Your Comrades And Stop Obama’s Health Care Atrocity”

The following letter was sent by Tony Passaro of the Bel Air Tea Party Patriots:

AMERICANS YOU ARE BEING CALLED On TO AGAIN TO MAKE A STAND………

We are in the final days of the National Health Care Reform Debate. The Senate is debating Majority Leader Harry Reid’s health care reform bill all week —and a cloture vote, to end debate, is just around the corner. If Reid has his way, his health care reform bill will usher in the largest expansion of government in history, federalizing one-sixth of the American economy.

The time to act is now. In August we turned out to Congressional meetings throughout the country and stalled the march to OBAMA’S health care. With a final vote in the Senate imminent this is our LAST stand.

This time we press the Senate.

Freedom fighters from all across the nation are joining with Patients First, Americans ...Continue Reading

Tea Parties “Storm the Capitol” Over Health Care

Filed as At Large with 206 comments

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

Bel Air Tea Party organizer Tony Passaro loaded up two charter buses in the parking lot of the Harford County Government building in Bel Air this morning, headed for a health care protest in Washington D. C.

Passaro said he had about 100 people, whom he called “The Old Maryland Line”, ready to join a broader movement to oppose the health care bills currently under consideration in Congress.

The effort started with a call from Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to “Storm the Capitol” today, November 5, 2009. Passaro says he has heard from Tea Parties in Texas, Ohio, Virginia, Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Florida, West Virginia and Pennsylvania who also plan to answer the call.

The idea is to meet on the Capitol steps today at noon, enter the halls of Congress to find elected officials, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in particular, and deliver letters adorned with tea bag tags ...Continue Reading

Harford’s Impact Fee Debate Sparks Tea Party Revolt/Rift

Filed as Local Ink with 51 comments

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

A bill to repeal Harford County’s impact fee created some strange bedfellows when it was first introduced by Dion Guthrie, a Democrat representing Edgewood and Joppatowne and Chad Shrodes, a Republican representing the rural north.

Now, the repeal effort has sparked a rift among the leaders of the anti-tax Tea Party movement and drawn a number of local organizations into the fray. The bill is scheduled for what may become a lively hearing October 20th (today) at 7 p.m. in the County Council Chambers at 212 S. Bond Street in Bel Air.

The impact fee offsets the impact of new household creation on the cost of public schools by dedicating revenue specifically to public school construction needs.

Bel Air Tea Party organizer Tony Passaro would be expected to join other anti-tax advocates and support the repeal, but he sent a recent email to the members of the Harford County ...Continue Reading

McGrady: Tea Party Against Impact Fee, “This Tax Isn’t About Schools, It’s About Jobs”

The following letter was received from Tea Party organizer and House of Delegates candidate Patrick McGrady:

Editor,

Since July 2005, the Harford County government has levied an Impact Tax on every new home construction permit. The idea of the Impact Tax seems noble enough- the money raised from the tax goes into the Harford County Public Schools Capital Budget account so that it must be used only for new school development, property acquisition, or school renovation. These homebuyers are being unfairly double-taxed, this tax is keeping productive construction projects on hold, and this is keeping hard-working Harford County workers out of work on and State Unemployment rolls.

Here in Harford County, we pay property taxes at the County and municipal level. On a home that is assessed at $250,000, the annual County portion of taxes amount to $2,705. This tax amount is the property owner’s share of the County Government, including school construction. ...Continue Reading
