A Saturday morning fire gutted an Edgewood townhome and caused minor injuries to a firefighter battling the blaze, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
The fire was discovered in the basement family room of a two-story townhome on the 1200 block of Valley Leaf Court in Edgewood shortly after 10:15 a.m. Saturday. A total of 50 firefighters from the Joppa-Magnolia, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Abingdon, Bel Air and Kingsville fire companies brought the blaze under control in approximately an hour, according to the state fire marshal’s office. A smoke alarm was present and working at the time of the fire.
One firefighter sustained minor burns to his neck, and was transported by the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center, where he was treated and released.
Total damage to the home is estimated at $100,000, with damages to its contents estimated at $20,000. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bel Air office of the state fire marshal at (410) 836-4844.
