If all of these establishments, many of whom are very nice places, owned and operated by many concientious people all seem to have the same violation, perhaps the problem is not with them but with stupid regulations by a system that has nothing better to do but harass!

I am in the refridgeration business in this area as well as the surrounding Baltimore metro area. Harford Co. does have tougher standards. These standards do of course keep us safe from bad food as well as give me work. But you are correct when you say most of these businesses are decent places run by hardworking concientious people. The violation most noted “food temperature” is in my experience usually when a unit required to be 38 degrees is slightly over 40 degrees. This even if the inspection takes place at say lunch time when the doors to the unit are opened often. It would be a shame if a good business lost any reputation simply for being on this list for a violation of this type. P.S. None of my customers are this months list.

Regulation is in place to make sure restaurants keep up with food handling, storage and service within safe levels. I don’t see how this is a “stupid regulation” and the “system” in this case the health department is doing what it has been asked to do by LAW, not by arbitrary decisions made by the dept. Of course, if you or your family got sick or if people were injured from eating unsafe food, then there would be demands to maintain safe and sanitary food operators. I had a Realtor call once about roaches from the next door neighbor which were keeping her listing from selling and when I told her that there wasn’t any regulation in place to force the neighbor to mitigate the infestation she complained that govt needs to look into this, but she was also protesting the Livabiiity Code a few weeks ago. So, govt can’t win because the taxpayer only cares about these things when they are affected by them.

I agree 100% with you I worked in food service for 20 years an in those years I worked in several good food establishments harford county has the hardest health code.through those years it never failed the health dept always showed up during lunch rush or dinner an going in an out of walk in boxes an opening an shutting cold units often your right the temp is not going to be at code.the same thing happens at every harford county home when you stand there for 5 minutes with the door opened.just thought I would voice my thoughts an give you the credit for speaking up.

I complained about this a couple years ago, but the violations are so ubiquitous as to be meaningless, really.

I have asked for a consolidated report from the Health Department that makes it easily identifiable which establishments have the most violations during a given time period (such as a year, quarter, whatever) and by type of violation. Or even percentages maybe if places are inspected in differing numbers in a period.

Give us something to make the information useful. It still might not even be clear that place with the highest violations is a dump or not, but at least you can weight that against the place with the least and judge for yourself.

There are additional reports on the Dept website, but it takes a lot fo wading through them to get anything approaching useful information.

My I recommend an unannounced visit to Edgewood Middle School. If you get there early in the morning, you will find rodent feces on the cafeteria tables. If you have feces, you also have urine spray. Check out the disease potential with this infestation. The administration is only concerned with harassing staff members. They don’t look into serious issues such as this right under their noses. Thanks for checking into this matter.

Wow it doesn’t surprise me to hear about the feces problem at edgewood middle school.I agree the health dept needs to address problems like that an no doubt I am sure there are a lot of other facilities they need to check
