Shopper’s Wallet Stolen at Wegmans; Suspect Attempted to Buy $2,000 in Target Gift Cards

March 1, 2012 By Dagger News Service 24 Comments

From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:

On Friday, February 3, 2012 between 11 a.m. – noon, a customer of the Wegman’s located at 21 Wegmans Blvd in Abingdon reported that her wallet was stolen while shopping in the store. Investigators determined that an unknown black male (pictured) removed the victim’s wallet containing various credit cards from the shopper’s unattended purse. After fleeing the scene, investigators determined that the suspect drove to the Target Store located in Constant Friendship and attempted to purchase over $2,000 in gift cards.

The suspect is described as a light skinned black male 30-50 years of age with a beard. He was wearing a dark colored hat with unknown emblems on all sides of the hat. He was wearing blue jeans, a light colored button-down shirt, and a dark colored jacket. He was a passenger inside of a silver four door Mercedes with a sunroof and aftermarket tires ( pictured). The suspect may or may not be the owner of the vehicle seen in the photos.

Anyone with investigative information regarding the individual depicted in the photos is encouraged to contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Southern Precinct Investigative Unit – Detective Mike Berg at 410-612-1717.

I hear ya!…..the only problem is that if they had an HD-quality image taken, the ACLU would sue them for invasion of privacy and the person photographed would likely be awarded a multimillion dollar settlement.

Most retailers prefer to spend most of their money on preventing theft, rather than catching thieves, though they are obviously related endeavors.

I am pretty sure the camera shots are from Target, captured after he tried to buy the gift cards.

If women would not leave purses unattended in shopping carts this wouldn’t happen. I don’t know how they can be so stupid/trusting turning their back on their cart or walking away completely. Some even leave their purses wide open–an invitation for theft. I have worked as a merchandiser in several different stores and have seen this so often.

The same reason people seem to think that leaving their cars unlocked with cell phones, purses, GPS, keys, etc in plain view is a good idea.

Everyone knows the rules about safety and safeguarding our personal items. Being stupid should not cause theft, but with the way life is now and so many out of work, we should be practicing strong personal security. Due to being reckless, this person now will pay the consequences.

You gotta stop bringing someone’s race into your arguments. Crimes are committed by people of races and religions. You appear to sound ignorant and uninformed. No one will take you seriously until you change your ways.

Old Skool, let me know when you have personal evidence of the abuse. And while your at it how about making excuses for half of Baltimore City thugs whom you could use the “abuse” racket with. Not sure I’d want them free on the streets for heresay. Stop regurgitating the bs floating around and get the facts. He’s going to trial because the evidence is more damning than the lies and facebook “save him” groupies acting like killing is justified in any sense.

Your comments reveal your lack of knowledge, lack of compassion and your pre-disposition to hate others based on superficial qualities and your simplistic view of the world. Your presence in this community is just as destabilizing as the people you would vilify.

I have left the Walmart in Abingdon late at night already and was people wondering through the parking lot lifting door handles to find an unlocked vehicle. Using your brain to secure your valuables should be the first deterrent to theft.
