New Principals Assigned for 11 Harford County Public Schools; More Changes Possible

June 9, 2014 By Cindy Mumby 21 Comments

Superintendent Barbara Canavan has assigned new principals for nearly a dozen Harford County Public Schools effective July 1st, with more changes possible leading up to the 2014-15 school year.

Thus far, C. Milton Wright High School, Aberdeen Middle School, Havre de Grace Middle School and the Alternative Education Program will each have a different principal next year, with the remainder of new assignments affecting elementary schools.

All of the 11 newly assigned principals are HCPS employees, working currently as school principals or in other positions, according to Jillian Lader, HCPS manager of communications.

According to a 2014 roster of school administrators, two of the newly assigned principals – for Bakerfield and Havre de Grace elementary schools – have been serving as acting principals at their respective schools.

Overall changes in school-based administrators, including assistant principals, affected about half of the school system’s 54 schools as of June 2nd, according to a list published by HCPS. Asked whether the moves reflected a shake-up, Lader provided the following response:

“Assignments changed based upon the assessment of the executive leadership to determine what is in the best interest of the students in Harford County Public Schools as well as the staff. These assignments give the system an opportunity to strengthen and improve upon the great leadership teams that we already have, by offering variety in assignments. As noted on the bottom right of the page, these were changes as of June 2 and the list could have additional updates.”

Is there any details on the situation with Bel Air women’s lacrosse? Apparently the BoE and BA brushed the coach cyber bullying high school girls under the rug. The parents took it to court. The coach was fired, banned from coaching childrens sports, and fined. The atheletic director and BoE board members were also fined. Way to go. This should really be reported on. There is no room for this behavior, and the fact they would try to brush it aside is appalling.

I have a child that goes to Bel Air and many friends with children on the LAX team. I think your entire statement is false. Where did you hear this, the rumor mill? There are no facts supporting that a coach was banned/fined or facts supporting a board member was fined. Maybe this wasn’t reported on because it isn’t true. Maybe you should get facts straight before you perpetuate rumors, this is middle school behavior!

Do you have a court case docket number? When did this happen? My girls play at Bel AIr, and I have never heard of anything like this? Prove your case! You know you could ruin someone’s career with rumors that are not true! Also you could be facing a civil lawsuit.

Well there doesn’t appear to be a case in the system, which is a good thing in the end that it is not true. This is why I asked if anyone knew about it because it was pretty shocking. I guess I was told something untrue. Sorry Bel Air folks. Have a nice day.

Are you talking about Bel Air High School girls lacrosse? I’ve heard rumors, but nothing more. Interesting, and will be interested to see what happens.

There is also this thing called a tree octopus. I think it’s funny how anyone can put anything they want for personal gain on internet media. Whoever county news is they dont know their facts. We love the coaches at bel air and the girls had a great season.

That’s fine that you love the coaches, but it is not fine that one was using social media to belittle high schoolers. What fact is not straight?

Maybe it is a rumor? It came from a someone from another school. The details seemed pretty specific, but maybe it is a telephone game.

The new AP at RPES was guilty of DUI in 2010 and looks like he stiffed Bank of America for $4400. Seems like a fine upstanding citizen that is a great role model for the students. Where there is smoke, there is fire. I wonder what other skeletons are in the closet.

Speaking of coaches getting removed, anyone know why the head football coach at North Harford was transferred out in the middle of last year?
