On Wednesday at 1643 hours, the Hose Company was alerted for an engine to respond as part of the box assignment for 728 Custis Street, in the 213 box area. Engine 512 (w/6), which was enroute to a 10-50 PI in the 541 box area, marked up immediately after alert. Engine 215 was first to arrive at 1647 hours with heavy fire showing from a middle of the group townhouse with exposures on the bravo and delta sides. Engine 512, which was instructed by command to take the charlie side, arrived shortly after Engine 215 and quickly went to work.
During this time, the Hose Company was alerted for two additional engines and Tower 5 to fill out the box. Deputy Chief 5, Engine 513 (w/6), Engine 515 (w/10) and Tower 5 (w/6) marked up immediately after alert. Upon arrival, crews were assigned multiple tasks by command. At 1651 hours, command requested the 2nd alarm assignment. Command placed the fire under control at approximately 1720 hours and crews remained on scene until 1938 hours. Chief 2 (Reith) held the “Custis Street” command.
During this time Engine 511, Rescue 5 and Mini-Pumper 5 remained attended and Cecil County Engine 72 relocated to House 1.
