County Exec Craig to Hold Informal Discussions with Citizens

From Harford County Government:

Harford County Executive David R. Craig has scheduled visits to all eleven public libraries in the county, where he will be available to speak with citizens about all issues pertaining to county government.

Dubbed “County Executive David Craig – Unplugged,” the visits are an opportunity for citizens to speak informally and in-person with the County Executive on a wide range oftopics, including education, recreation, transportation, agriculture, jobs, and financial issues.

“I have always taken the constituent service aspect of my job very seriously,” stated County Executive Craig. “Local government is the form of government that is closest to the citizen, and these visits will allow the County to both provide information, and to receive input,” Craig remarked.

County Sets Cost of ‘09-’10 Winter Snow Removal at $2.7M

From the Harford County Government:

The winter of 2009 – 2010 was one of the worst in the history ofthe state in terms of snowfall, and one of the costliest for Harford County government as well. Total cost for snow removal, including salt purchases, overtime and contractor utilization was $2.764,000. The FY 10 budget for snow and ice removal was $1.5 million.

Harford County Department of Public Works, Division of Highways tallied 43,148.30 hours of overtime this winter for snow and ice removal. Additionally five county employees suffered various injuries while performing duties related to snow removal. None of the injuries were life threatening.

“This was one of the most difficult and challenges winters on record and our county employees stepped up and successfully met the challenges of this record-setting winter for snowfall,” stated County Executive David R. Harford County Personnel Advisory Board to Meet March 22

The Harford County Personnel Advisory Board will hold their annual meeting, pursuant to the Harford County Charter, on March 22, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Historic Colored High School located at 205 Hays Street in Bel Air.

Harford County consists of 47 local PTA units with over 11,000 members. It is time to take action concerning the Harford County budget. Executive Craig is now formulating the 2011 budget to be given to the Harford County Council by April 1, 2010. Now is the time for PTA members to let the county executive know that we want our children’s education fully funded. The students in Harford County are our future and we must invest in the future today. Email Executive Craig and let him know that PTA is the voice of the children in Harford County. Bulle Rock Residents Create Quilts for Wounded Soldiers, Memorial Quilt to Honor Local Veteran

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (Mar. 12, 2010) – The Quilters at Bulle Rock live at The Residences of Bulle Rock and meet bimonthly at the resort-style community’s Residents’ Club to celebrate their love of quilts and quilting. While socializing and sharing their skills, ideas and tips, they have completed seven quilts during the past year.

Along with adeptly using their hands, the Quilters have poured their hearts and souls into every stitch. Their finished products were colorful and decorative displays of art; but, more importantly, they were works of love to bring comfort and hope to those in need.

Harford County Farmers Commemorate National Ag Week

(Bel Air, MD – March 15, 2010) – - The week of March 14th through the 20th is National Ag Week, and Harford County farmers are again marking the occasion by visiting classrooms to educate students about agriculture.

This year, members of Harford’s agricultural community will be visiting a total of 18 schools and speaking to over 3,300 students. The visits are coordinated by the Harford County Farm Bureau, in cooperation with the Harford County Division of Agriculture and the Board of Education.

“These classroom visits allow our children to connect with local farmers, and to learn first-hand what is involved in agriculture,” stated Jay Rickey, President of the Harford County Farm Bureau. “As both an educator and a farmer, I know that it’s something that both the farmers and the students look forward to.”

Six-Run Fourth Inning Gives Harford Baseball 11-1 Win Over Quinsigamond

BEL AIR, Md.—A six-run fourth inning gave the Harford baseball team the 10-run differential it needed to down visiting Quinsigamond, 11-1 (7 inn.), on Monday night at Harford Baseball Field. The game between the Fighting Owls (7-4) and the Wyverns (0-1) was a last-minute pick-up, after Quinsigamond’s originally scheduled game at CCBC-Essex was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

Harford Baseball Field needed some work prior to the first pitch, but was in good enough condition to endure Monday’s game, which saw the teams brave moderate to heavy rains and cold, windy conditions in order to play.

The First LEED-certified Modular Home Ever Built by High School Students in the USA was the winner as one of the Green Projects of the Year for 2009

(Bel Air, MD) – The Maryland Chapter of the US Green Building Society, an organization committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings, recognized Harford Habitat for Humanity (HHH) and Harford Technical High-School recently for their partnership to create the “Habi-Tech Project,” a LEED certified modular home, by naming the project the winner of the 2009 Young Professionals Award. Dave Guttman, HHH Construction Manager, Mike Svezzese, Harford Tech Carpentry Teacher, and Principal Chas Hagan accepted the award recently on behalf of the partnership.
