FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 10, 2009

Library Reduces Hours of Operation

The Harford County Public Library will reduce hours of operation at its eleven branches effective August 3, 2009. The reduction in hours is part of the package of cuts to be implemented in FY’10 due to a reduction of the operating budget by $1.6 million.

“Our goal with the implementation of this change was to minimize the impact on customer service at all branches,” stated Audra Caplan, Library Director. “We feel this new schedule will allow us to provide service with the decrease in staff.”

The new hours can be found on the library website at HCPlonline.info. The library offers many services via the website including browsing the catalog and reserving and renewing materials.

Harford County Public Library operates eleven branches located throughout Harford County, Maryland. The library serves over 180,000 registered borrowers of all ages and has an annual circulation of over 4,000,000. The mission of Harford County Public Library is to provide access, service and information to the citizens of Harford County anytime, anywhere and to create an environment that encourages the acquisition of knowledge and the love of reading.

Good. I’ll be able to survive these tiny cuts, and most of Harford County will also.

FYI – I believe last year and all years prior, the libraries were always closed on Sundays during the summer… is this a cut?

The difference is that Sunday closing will be year round……..
