Kharn says
“A caller from the 2300 block of Amoss Mill Road reported Monday that the caller’s cat had been killed by a bow and arrow.”
Hunting without a license charges for both parties would be appropriate. If you can’t use a falcon to catch game without a hunting license, why should letting your cat outside (off-leash) be acceptable?
Also I bet a ticket for failing to clean up after the pet would be appropriate.
jj johnson says
It’s funny how all animals are required to be under the owners control (leash when out of yard), yet cat owners routinely let them run the neighborhood without a thought.
Then complain they are lost or dead. Responsible ownership.
The Money Tree says
Cat owners rank right up there with pit bull owners as the most irresponsible pet owners. Neighbors cat kills anything that moves – birds, chipmunks, snakes…it’s now resorted to tearing the wings off the butterflies in my yard – doesn’t eat them, just rips them up for fun. Since there are no laws relating to keeping control of your cats and the neighbors seem disinterested in being neighborly I’m bringing out the hav-a-heart trap. First time it goes to the shelter; if there’s a second time we’ll just see.
Q says
When was the last time a house cat mauled a child?
The Money Tree says
What does that have to do with anything here? We’re not talking about kids…we’re talking about an invasive animal that hunts and kills for thrill. Your right to keep what I consider a pest stops at the boundary to my yard. They’re darn lucky I like animals; even those I object to because I’d just as soon shoot the thing.
Black Cat says
House cats will suck out a baby’s breath while it sleeps, steal its soul and give it to satan.
Q says
Um, because you compared cats to pit bulls. I took that a step further. Sorry about your precious butterflies.
The Money Tree says
Apparently you have very little ability to follow written logic. The comment was about the owners, not the animals…no comparison of cats and pit bulls came from me. Get it? Another cat apologist I assume. Funny thing about cat owners is they’ll tell you several things about why they own cats – what always comes up is how little they have to do and I find that such an obvious dereliction of duty. That comment can actually be assume to mean they’ll let thier pet wander wherever they want and could care less…the cat then becomes the problem for the neighbors crapping in thier yard, pissing thereby killing plants because cat urine is extremely acid. Heck have no idea who you are but if you might by chance be my neighbor let me warn you putty tat about to disappear.
Q says
wow. Money Tree, you are a giant douche. I am not a cat apologist. I have owned cats before (strictly indoor, thank you) but am currently a dog owner. Be that as it may, pardon me for not following your “logic” (if that’s what you want to call it). But by singling out pet owners one could make the leap (and not terribly far) that extended to the actual animals as well. But I would bet that “pussy” cats are not the only thing you have difficulty with.
Billy Jack says
So, Kharn, you would like to charge the dead cat with hunting without a license. And you also see some connection between falconry and littering. Interesting.
Kharn says
No, I’d charge the deceased cat’s owner for hunting without a license, because he owned the animal. Cats are barely-domesticated predators, the same as a hawk or falcon.
I’m required to pick up after my dog, but I don’t see neighborhood cat owners going through flower beds cleaning up after their pets.

There is a leash law for cats?

County Code 185-6: No person shall:
C. Cause or permit any dog, cat or other domesticated animal to run at large or to create a nuisance.
Paul Mc says
Hey JJ,
That only applies to county parklands and facilities, not to the county as a whole.
“§ 185-2. Applicability. The provisions of this chapter shall apply in and upon all department parklands and facilities within the county.”
