Lygalyn says
There was a time when the sight of a cow in the road was resolved with a call to the local farmer. Now we call 911.
Five Iron says
Which local farmer? There are plenty around this area. That one is valid. I’d be more concerned that someone lost a propane tank last November and waited until the end of February to report it? Where they just busy? Why randomly pick November?
We Think We Know What's Best For You Regardless says
Citizen, why are you concerned about a stolen propane tank?
Michael DORN says
It was on schuster, there is only one place i know of where there are cows on schuster, so that would kind of narrow it down, but @lygaln calling the sheriff wasn’t a bad idea because as five iron said, caller probably didn’t know who’s they were. Now when I was a youngster in Jarrettsville that would not have been the case. Everyone pretty much everyone in Jarrettsville, i know a Dorn kid could go nowhere in the village that it didn;t get back to his parents.HaHa!
We Think We Know What's Best For You Regardless says
I thought you were “WORF” from Star Trek the Next Generation. The actors name is also Micheal Dorn.
Five Iron says
@We Think We Know What’s Best For You Regardless — I would think it rather odd to report something 3-4 months AFTER it happened is cause for concern. Let me give you an example since you are so concerned (or very bad at sarcasm….) You state your neighbor hit you in the head on NY Eve, but your report it July 4th. How many judges are going to believe you in October when the trial comes up and its your word against his…no other evidence. So now, by not reporting it timely, you waste Harford County legal resources at great cost but cause you were too inept to call 9-1-1 within a day or two of it being stolen. While it may have actually been stolen and I doubt very much it will ever be found at this late of a report date, your wasting resources. Cripes, you must either be a banker or a Republican to want that many chances for being bailed out for your own ineptness. Admit the person screwed up by not reporting it and move on.
wait a minite hold up now player says
You think just 1 of these blotter reports are odd? Hell man, take a look weekly, at least 50 percent of them are odd to me,.player!
john duhmghass says
Are you some kind of a dumbass? Who knows what this person’s situation is as to why they reported it so late, maybe they are retired and were in another home for the past few months?
Who says it was reported to 911? Blotter is reported from non emergency calls as well and handled as so.
We Think We Know What's Best For You Regardless says
Iron Fist, by reading your post and I can’t help but to wonder if you believe 911 is there for citizens of this county to report possible stolen items such as Propane tanks, shovels, etc. etc. you are mistaken. 911 (An emergency telephone dispatch) is for emergencies, you see? If anyone is “wasting resources” It’s tying up emergency personnel to report something of an non-emergency event.
Non-emergency calls (You know, to the Police stations) are taken and compiled into “blotter” as well.
If anyone is “inept,” it must be you.
Five Iron says
I am surprised that any police group takes a call on a non 911 line since they are all recorded and tracked vice (some) the internal lines which are not. I had previously reported a problem and did not want to use 911 specifically as I believed it to be for emergency calls only. (Was just a person turning around in an auto sales lot on Bel Air Rd at a rather late hour). Was told to call 9-1-1 for everything, emergency or not. So unless there is a non-emergency number that is recorded and traced that exists in HarCo, 9-1-1 seems to be it. In B-More and other cities they use 2-1-1 and 3-1-1 for various non-emergency calls but I doubt Hazzard County is inundated with as many calls as B-More or DC.
…and as for “john duhmghass” — apropros nom de plume. So explain your logic. Homeowner Tom leaves for Florida in November and comes back on February 27th. Explain “duhmghass” how he knows it was stolen in November when he wasn’t there?
Uhh wut? says
When you report anything “stolen” it’s a matter of evidence to facts. John Dumbghass or whatever was pointing out a possible one and a thousand scenarios that likely get called into Police Departments country wide on a monthly basis of small items that people believed to have been suspicion of theft from their property.
Such as, a homeowner comes home after their vacation, see’s evidence of their grille being tampered with.. notices tracks vehicle in the mud down to where the grille was, etc. etc.
I am curious as to why the delay in reporting, but since I don’t play an Internet Detective on Blotter Reports, I’ll leave an open mind up.
Fred Asternine says
Yeah, because reporting suspicious activity and reporting suspicion of theft of a propane tank from your property has the same level or urgency. “They” told you to use 911, so that means now, it’s your personal dispatching hub, huh?
I’m sure more often than not someone is told to call 911 for a non-emergency to get the call handled a certain way/faster/whatever, but the fact remains, 911 is an emergency dispatch.
Dispatchers are trained to handle the call situations before figuring out course of action/urgency is taken no matter what phone number you call.
