The #1 Fallston Cougars (11-0) host the #3 Kent Island Buccaneers (9-2) in a 2A East Regional Final Friday at 7pm. Both of these programs have had a lot of success over the last ten years including Maryland State Playoff appearances. The Cougars have outscored their opponents 386-128, where the Buccaneers have outscored their opponents 371-119. Fallston is led by senior RB Andrew Monaghan who has rushed over 1,100 rushing yards and 14 TDs. He had 189 yards, 4 TDs and 2-2point conversions in their 27-20 playoff win against Easton last week. The Buccaneers are led by the best running back in the Bayside in Sr. Evan Greenwood. Greenwood has rushed for over 1300 yards and double digit TDs this year despite missing the first two games. He had 284 yards and 2 TDs as the Bucs defeated archrival Queen Anne’s 21-14 last week.
Kent Island suffered two losses, the first one against Bayside foe North Caroline where the Bucs were without six players including Greenwood. The second loss was a non-conference affair to a very good Thomas Stone team (Southern Maryland Athletic Conference of Charles County) at home 36-28. The team Fallston beat last week, Easton was defeated by Kent Island 29-7. Neither team is ranked in the Top 25 State Writers Poll but Fallston is getting votes. Fallston has two wins over 3A teams (Aberdeen and North Harford), has won eleven straight and is undefeated for the first time in Head Coach Dave Cesky’s 37 year career. Fallston is ranked #27 in Max Preps (MD). Kent Island comes in having won four straight and is ranked #52 by Max Preps in MD.
