From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
(January 5, 2015 – ABINGDON, MD) –Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate a fatal stabbing, claiming the life of a 28 year-old Harford County man.
Two adult males have been charged with the murder that occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2015. The victim has been identified as Edward W. Hayden, III, of the 300 block of Forsythia Drive in Abingdon.
Sean Thomas Turkot, age 28, also of Forsythia Court and Alexander William Smoot, age 29 of the 1800 block of Petula Court in Forest Hill, were both charged with Hayden’s murder.
At approximately 7:18 pm, on Sunday, Hayden’s girlfriend reported him missing. Patrol deputies responded to the residence, beginning an intense investigation with HCSO detectives that developed evidence implicating the suspects in Hayden’s murder. The specific motive for the murder remains under investigation. The victim and his girlfriend lived in the residence with their roommate, Turkot. Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office took both suspects into custody at the residence on Forsythia Court, without incident.
Around 3:30 am, HCSO acting on information gathered through the investigation, began a search near Havre de Grace in the Susquehanna State Park. Hayden’s body was recovered by authorizes from the water at approximately 10:30 am.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center, awaiting initial appearance before a court commissioner.
Investigative assistance was provided by HCSO Patrol, HCSO helicopter SABLE 1, as well as Department of Natural Resources, Susquehanna Hose Company, Level and Aberdeen VFC. Anyone who may have information is urged to contact Harford County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tammy Burns at 410-836-5043.
The investigation ongoing, no further details are available to this time.
Nothing like ringing in the New Year with a Homicide! Wowza. This is Bush’s ….I mean Bane’s fault!
I’m feeling safer by the day. Thanks Jeff.
You should feel safer. Less than 16 hours after being notified of a possible crime, the HCSO established that a crime did indeed occur, the crime solved, the suspects taken into custody, a confession obtained and the body which had been dumped into the Susquehanna River recovered.
Great job by all agencies involved with solving this heinous crime!
Hell of a way to start off the new year.
Dumb and dumber.
If Obama had a son… oh wait… nevermind!
Bunch of weirdos!!! Always see the 2 together, wearing camouflage and buying stupid car parts…
“HCSO helicopter SABLE 1” I thought it was Eagle 1.
Was wondering if I am the only one who caught that? Maybe they changed the name to make the public think that Eagle 1 went away?
You couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, there was an entire article regarding the name change in a recent Aegis news article. Seems there was already an Eagle 1 call sign being used in our local area. When airborne, the HCSO call sign was not the name that Sheriff Bane had chosen so, Sheriff Gahler, according to the news article decided to call the aviation asset by the name it actually used, SABLE 1.
Yeah it was renamed after the same folks who griped and moaned during the election season about it being a wasteful resource realized it indeed was a great resource for HCSO. But the offiical message will be it was some FAA issue or the fact of not confusing it with other national aircraft callsigns!
Change the name or admit you were crying over something you winded up keeping anyway.
It had to be changed because another helicopter in the area has the same call sign and every time they had to enter that area they were having to switch to a different call sign anyway (AA Co, maybe?)
Gahler said all along that he would do a full evaluation of the aviation program over the course of his first year in office and then make a determination if it is cost efficient to keep it or not. I don’t know what you were expecting.
I was one of many who were against getting it in the first place, but it’s here now and it has proven useful on numerous occasions. Fully funded by asset forfeitures? I highly doubt that’s even possible since it’s flying most days.
Oh please. It was in the search. It didn’t say it found the body. Anyone who understands anything would know that the body was going to turn up if they dumped it in the river. Please. They already had the guys.
Multimillion money pit. I’m sure you will be the first one to agree to a tax increase to fly the damn thing… right. Oh, you would agree to raise taxes anyhow.
The suspects confessed to the crime and told them where they dumped the body. They certainly didn’t need the helicopter. Jeff is now trying to eat his words and justify keeping it. How does humble pie and crow taste.
That’s funny: I read this story two or three times and missed the point where the suspects confessed to the crime. Where’d you get that piece of information?
And for those who missed the memo, it seems that SABLE 1 was the ID applied to the chopper on its registration papers. Gahler decided that the bird should be identified by its registered ID. As to whether he’s going to keep the bird, we’ll have to see. But the name change was on at least two or three web sites, including, IIRC, this one.
The sable is a type of weasel which doesn’t seem to be a good name for a flying machine. Something more avian and Harfordian would have been more appropriate, like DUCK 1 from the Havre de Grace decoy festival.
Actually had this guy Alex in daycare when he was about 9 or 10. Was weird then….and I told numerous people he was odd and he was “creepy”. Saw him a couple years ago just walking around the town of Bel Air-he was even stranger! This is so not a shock…sad…but not shocking.
They both went to school at Shepard pratt, in fact including them thats three students from that graduating class that have been convicted of 1st degree murder
The other kids name is josh lookingbill
The whole Forsythia area needs checked! All perverts sex offenders strange weirdos. Old man outside jerking himself off bringing in young guys all day and night. You be surprised what you see on public record of your neighbors!
Police need to watch all of them. Keep your doors locked and blinds shut weird sick old men prolly all know each other.
What an odd post, a werk after the article? What’s your agenda?
12/08/2015 Turkot found guilty on 1st degree murder and on conspiring to commit murder. One down, one to go!
Looks like aAlex Smoot is going to reach a plea deal of some kind. Sentencing for both of these guys will be in Feb. 2016.
