Defense Contractors and Office Park Developers Get the Play-by-Play

(Eatontown, NJ) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig, the Office of Economic Development and the Harford County Chamber of Commerce hosted over 100 defense contractors and office park developers at a recent football-themed reception designed to introduce construction projects in Harford County.

Held at the Eatontown Sheraton in New Jersey, “Position Yourself For A Touchdown In Harford County” showcased not only office parks, but also quality of life and opportunities in the City of Aberdeen, Havre de Grace and the Town of Bel Air. The program was hosted by Scott Garceau, Baltimore sportscaster and personality; Michael McCrary, Baltimore Ravens Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl star; and Sean Landeta, punter for the New York Giants World Champion teams and a graduate of Towson University.

Governor O’Malley Announces First Major BRAC Road Project to Move to Construction in Harford County

O’Malley-Brown Administration invests $42.6 million to make key interchange improvement at Aberdeen Proving Ground

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 11, 2009) –Governor Martin O’Malley today announced that the O’Malley-Brown Administration, in partnership with federal funds, will begin a $42.6 million BRAC-related improvement project at the interchange of US 40 and MD 715. The project is the first that is BRAC-related to move to construction in Harford County. The interchange is the primary access point to the U.S. Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground. Working with Harford County, the City of Aberdeen and military officials, this interchange was identified as a key transportation priority as the region prepares for an influx of BRAC-related jobs. The project advances after months of planning and prioritizing by the BRAC Sub-Cabinet created by Governor O’Malley and chaired by Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown.

Havre de Grace’s Juanita L. Warman Among 13 Killed In Fort Hood Shooting

Havre de Grace resident Juanita L. Warman was among the 13 people killed in Thursday’s shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, according to national media reports.

While Warman and the dozen others who died in Thursday’s attack have not yet been officially named by the Department of Defense, their names, Warman’s included, are slowly filtering out as family and friends are notified.

Juanita Warman and her huband Philip own a condominium in Havre de Grace.

Assorted media reports have further details on Juanita Warman:

- Warman is originally from Pittsburgh, but she lived in Maryland in the Havre De Grace area for the last ten years.

- Warman, 55, was a military physician assistant with two daughters and six grandchildren. Her sister, Margaret Yaggie of Roaring Branch in north-central Pennsylvania, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that her sister attended Pittsburgh Langley High School and put herself through school at the University of ...Continue Reading

County Executive Craig Briefs House Appropriations Committee on BRAC Preparations

Visit includes tour of APG

(Aberdeen, MD) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig with representatives from the Harford County Office of Economic Development and the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor regional BRAC office, hosted a tour of the Aberdeen Proving Ground to members of the Maryland House of Delegates, House Appropriations Committee. The tour and briefing were conducted Monday, September 28.

The tour commenced with a briefing at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen by county and military officials followed by a tour of the Aberdeen Proving Ground. The purpose of the visit by the House Appropriations Committee was to gain first-hand information as to the progress Harford County has made in preparation for BRAC and the challenges to the county which lie ahead.

County Executive Craig Receives National Award for BRAC Preparations

Recipient of the John Leigh Public Sector Official of the Year

(Bel Air, MD) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig has received the John Leigh Public Sector Official of the Year award. Craig and Harford County Government were recognized last weekend at the Association of Defense Communities national conference in Boston for the county’s preparations for BRAC.

The award acknowledges County Executive Craig’s leadership in establishing local and regional planning groups to prepare for an influx of new residents to Harford County, as well as dedicated significant resources to resolving many of the challenges related to growth as a result of BRAC. The planning and advisory commission established by County Executive Craig, helped produce an action plan to guide the county’s efforts to address its needs in the areas of land use, transportation, infrastructure, education, workforce development, public safety and health.

$65 Million in Funds for BRAC-related Infrastructure Improvements Announced

Harford County will be a primary beneficiary of $65 million in federal funds designated for infrastructure improvement as part of the BRAC process.

Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger presented a ceremonial check for the amount to Harford County Executive David R. Craig, Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti and Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown.

The funds will help pay for road, mass transit, and other important infrastructure improvements on and around Aberdeen Proving Ground. Of particular importance will be intersection improvements along key transit routes to the APG area.

Monies specifically earmarked include over $3 million dollars for road improvements in Harford, $13 million for improvements to the MARC train service, $475,000 for the Aberdeen MARC Rail Storage Yard, $1.9 million for locally operated transit systems and $500,000 for improvements to the water infrastructure at APG.

“Pass Councilman Guthrie’s Amendments” – Guthrie Pleads For Public Help To Bypass Magnolia Incinerator

In a letter last week, Harford County Councilman Dion Guthrie asked U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski for help to alleviate health and traffic concerns he believes will be imposed by the massive expansion of the Waste-to-Energy incinerator in Magnolia.
