Former Principal Nancy Reynolds and Dr. Mohammad Reza Shahab Recommended for Harford County Board of Education

The Harford County Board of Education Nominating Committee conducted interviews with the five candidates last night and voted 7-0 to recommend former Bel Air Middle School Principal Nancy Reynolds and voted 4-3 to recommend Dr. Mohammad Reza Shahab for the two open seats on the board.
Now that the public has the background on at least five candidates for the Harford County Board of Education, it’s too bad we couldn’t have voted to put some of these highly qualified individuals in place. But that decision remains with the Governor. Or more accurately, with whichever local politician has the Governor’s ear. Still, the public has an interest in what happens next. Board Of Education Shakeup As Williams Resigns/Hess Becomes President/Merrell Vice President

Salina Williams, vice president of the Harford County Board of Education and a member of the board since 2003, abruptly announced her resignation Monday night during a session in which a pair of fellow board members ascended to new positions.

There was traffic gridlock in downtown Havre de Grace, a parade with lots and lots of fire engines, a ho-hum fireworks display, but about the best report coming from the city’s 2008 Independence Day Celebration is that there was little in the way of the violence that has marred the event in year’s past.

The Humane Society of Harford County has a tough job.
The county’s defacto animal shelter has a mission to provide a temporary home for abandoned and stray animals while balancing that with the harsh reality that not every animal (dog, cat, bunny, hamster, etc) can be adopted.

School is out for the summer but that’s not all teachers have to smile about, thanks to a victory in a precedent-setting case involving Harford County Public Schools, freedom of speech and Chris Battaglia.
Battaglia is known as the former assistant principal who ran afoul of Superintendent Jacqueline C. Haas after he let it slip he was being transferred from C. Milton Wright High School and his supporters turned out at a Board of Education meeting to protest the move. Not only was Battaglia admired by parents and students, prior to the public outcry he was also highly regarded by his employer.
