On January 28, 2009, Sean Thomas Jones, age 22, of Woodbridge Court in Edgewood, received the maximum sentence for the abuse and murder of two year old Ashlyn Sutherland. Judge Emory Plitt sentence Jones to a total of sixty years for the crime of second degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
Jones had been convicted in November of 2008 by a jury for beating and smothering Ashlyn, who he was temporarily watching while Ashlyn’s mother was at a neighbor’s house.
Ashlyn’s family consisting of her mother Sara and father Michael were present in Court along with her grandmother, aunt and uncle and stepmother. Family members submitted written statements to the judge and addressed the Court in person.
Jones will have to serve fifty percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

shame just 60 years and out in 30 not long enough. which is was still an eye for an eye justice.

I guess it’s an individual opinion as to whether it feels like justice or not, but that’s a stiff sentence for a second degree given the guidelines the judge has to work within.
Same court, same charge (2nd degree murder) in 2006 death of Patrick Walker, defendant gets 30 years.
Also, just because he’s parole eligible in 30, that’s a long time to stay out of trouble in the penal system.
Unless we go to Sharia law, that’s what we are left with…

Justice – where is the justice for the taxpayers that will need to pay to keep this piece of xxxx alive. In the end, this piece of xxxx should have been put down like the rabid dog he is for taking the life of an innocent. Our society has lost its moral compass…..
sick of this chicken shit losers says
Death Penalty. Or better yet eye for an eye like previous writer said. Someone bigger and stronger should get to beat him to death and smother him like he did to the poor little girl. I’m sick of scum who hurt those weaker, smaller, more helpless than them. Such cowardly pieces of crap.
