From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office at 12:34 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6:
It is has been brought to our attention that several citizens of Harford County are under the impression that there is an Active Shooter situation occurring at Bel Air High School. THERE IS NOT! Again, let me assure you there is not an active shooter situation occurring at any school in Harford County.
There was a drill being conducted by a local security company at Harford Community College. During the simulation, they were using walkie talkies as a part of the exercise. Someone erroneously picked up the transmission and reported it to our Emergency Operations Center, which of course immediately began the appropriate safety measures and protocols in a situation of this type.
Despite any reports you may have received to this point. I can assure you – THERE IS NOT AN ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATION OR LOCK DOWN AT ANY HARFORD COUNTY SCHOOL.
As it is important to communicate this information out as quickly and efficiently as possible, please feel free to forward this email to anyone you feel could be affected by the information.
Kindest regards,

One would imagine that anyone doing a drill at HCC would let the sheriff’s office know in advance.
