From the HCC sports desk:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Harford women’s soccer freshman forward Beth Lambros (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) has been named the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending September 27, the national office announced Wednesday.
Lambros has scored at least two goals per game for the last five straight games and has scored at least one point in all games this season, except in the season-opener against Anne Arundel. The rookie forward leads Harford and the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference with 47 points (19g, 9a) on the season. She has had six, multiple-goal games so far in 2009, including a stretch of three games where she notched consecutive hat tricks against Cecil, Frederick and Mary Washington. Lambros also ranks fifth in the country with 47 points and is tied for sixth with 19 goals.
Most recently, Lambros scored all four of Harford’s goals in a 4-1 decision over CCBC-Catonsville for her third eight-point game of the season. She also tallied eight points against Frederick and Mary Washington by notching three goals and two assists in both contests.
Lambros and the Fighting Owls (10-1, 5-0 MDJUCO) have dropped just one game this season, a hard-luck, 2-1 loss at Burlington on September 14, which saw the Barons convert on two penalty kicks late in the second half. Since the setback, the Owls have won five straight and will continue competition on Tuesday, October 6 when they host the College of Southern Maryland for a 6:30 p.m. game at Harford Stadium.
