From the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County:
This Saturday, October 24, from 9 AM to 2 PM, volunteers from Best Buy and the Geek Squad will be joining millions of volunteers across the country to make a difference in their own community. They will be at the Edgewood Boys & Girls Clubs renovating the computer lab and learning center and installing a total of 17 brand new computers and a projector. This project is one of thousands across the country scheduled for the 18th annual Make A Difference Day.
Randy Acosta, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County notes “Although the digital divide is lessening, a persistent technology gap exists between those who have the resources to access technology and those who do not, and much remains to be done. Public venues, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, can provide daily access to technology, not only for schoolwork assistance but also for career preparation and other personal enrichment activities. More important, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County can provide continued support for members to learn the skills needed to compete effectively. With a combination of caring adult staff and cutting-edge programs, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County can make a real difference in the future success of its members. The new technology provided by Best Buy will help us to provide the best programs possible for our Club members. Youth will now have the opportunity to research papers for school, participate in digital photography classes, Internet safety workshops, webpage design and music editing.”
This is not the first time Best Buy has stepped to the plate to bring cutting edge technology to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County. Earlier this summer, Best Buy provided a state of the art media center for the teen room at the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club. This included wall mounted flat screen TV’s, surround sound, a projector and several cutting edge gaming systems, all professionally installed by the Geek Squad.
Everyone is invited to join us for the unveiling of the new computer lab and education center. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for October 24 at 2 PM at our Edgewood Club.
