On Thanksgiving morning, Havre de Grace-area residents can burn off some calories before the big feast and raise money for a great cause by participating in the 3rd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot benefiting the Susquehanna Hose Company.
Open to the public for all age groups and fitness levels, the 5K walk/run will occur Nov. 26 at the Residents’ Club at The Residences at Bulle Rock (1200 Bulle Rock Pkwy.). Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., a warm up will occur at 8:45 and the race will kick off at 9:00.
A combination of road and trail, the route will travel from the Residents’ Club down Bulle Rock Parkway across the Zachman Way pedestrian bridge, down Blenheim Road to the five-star Bulle Rock Golf Course and back to the Residents’ Club.
The course will be well marked with monitors along the way, and Renaissance All Sports Athletic Club will be recording each participant’s finish times. What’s more, a costumed turkey will greet participants and cheer them on at the finish line.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Youth: 14 and under, Adolescent: age 15-19, Open: age 20-29, Sub-Masters: age 30 to 39, Masters: age 40 – 49, Veterans: age 50 to 59, and Senior: age 60 plus. What’s more, the youngest and the oldest Turkey Trot participant will receive an award.
Throughout the morning, there will be equipment and fire safety demonstrations by the Susquehanna Hose Company, which is responsible for the fire protection services for the City of Havre De Grace. Known as, ”The Fastest Volunteers in the Nation,” the Susquehanna Hose Company consists of five firehouses that operate five engines, tower, rescue, mini-pumper, three boats, a dive unit, swift water unit and four utility vehicles.
The 1st and 2nd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot events raised $21,000, which was used to purchase new emergency equipment for The City of Havre de Grace and the Susquehanna Hose Company. The City of Havre de Grace received five Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The Susquehanna Hose Company received two hydraulic rams and two rescue and escape units.
HeartSmart is coordinating registration for the event. Pre-registration for kids 10 and under is $10 and $20 for anyone over age 10. Day of registration will increase by $5 for both age groups. Checks should be made payable to “HeartSmart.” The pre-registration and registration price includes a long-sleeve logo T- shirt, refreshments and prizes.
