WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Harford women’s basketball team fell to the jayvee squad from Catholic University for the second time this season, as the Cardinals earned a 69-57 decision over the Fighting Owls (4-11) on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Freshman Alanza Brown (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) led the Owls in the setback with a team, season-high of 23 points, while sophomore Kiara Reeves (Aberdeen, Md./C. Milton Wright) added 14 and sophomore Brittany Mears (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) added 11 points each.
Holly Janicki led the Cardinals with 16 points and Kat Owunna contributed another 14 for Catholic.
The Owls managed just 17 points in a 28-17 first half, but more than doubled their offensive output in the second stanza, totaling 40 points to the Cardinals’ 41 on the way to the 69-57 decision.
The Fighting Owls return to action on Wednesday as they host Montgomery College-Rockville in a doubleheader with the men’s team, which will be taped by the local Harford Cable Network for future airing. The women begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
