The Village Center of Darlington, best known for the annual Darlington Apple Festival on first Saturday in October, is lesser known, but just as hospitable on the first Saturday in June. This Saturday marks the anniversary of the 21st Annual Herb Festival in this tiny, historic village. The founder of this event, named June, had her birthday in early June. The first Saturday in June became the date for these past two decades and this Saturday, June 5, vendors will offer herbs, veggie and flower plants, garden goodies, crafts and fleas. The Darlington Volunteer Fire Company at 2600 Castleton Road, just off Route 1, became the new location last year. Vendors were happy with all the space. Shoppers were happy with the easy parking. The Herb Festival kicks off at 10am this Saturday and runs until 4pm. It’s not too late to plant! Contact Jane at 410-457-4849, for more information.
Next, mark the Darlington Independence Day Parade and Celebration on your calendar. Darlington kicks off the season on Saturday, June 26, with a parade, entertainment and food at Francis Silver Park, followed by the best fireworks in Harford County! Darlington has always scheduled this celebration a little early so it would not conflict with other holiday events in the area. If you want to be in the parade, call Jerry at 410-836-3506. The parade begins at 5:30 pm at the Weigh Station on Route 1 and winds from there down Main Street to Francis Silver Park. Bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket. This “insider” can tell you that the fireworks are so close (soccer field), you can feel like you are right underneath them. It doesn’t get any better.
