From Harford County Public Schools:
The winners of this year’s Harford County Public Schools Custodial Awards were recognized at a school board meeting held July 12, 2010 in Bel Air.
The following summary is from HCPS:
As part of the Custodial Training Program, the Facilities Management Department conducts bi-annual inspections of each of the 53 schools. These inspections are conducted in the fall and spring of each school year, with one being an announced inspection and the other being a “surprise” unannounced inspection. Inspections are conducted by the Custodial Training Coordinator as well as selected custodial colleagues. Awards are presented to the top three scoring elementary schools and the top scoring middle and high schools (one each). Winners are recognized at a Board of Education meeting and the annual custodial luncheon.
The inspection process is an intense walk-thru of all areas of each building. Items that are inspected include interior lobbies, stairwells, windows and horizontal ledges, gymnasium bleachers, mechanical plants, classrooms, restroom sanitation, floor machines, custodial closets, water coolers, and boiler preventive maintenance sheets, and just about any other area that could be included as the interior of the building. Exterior grounds, sidewalks, and playgrounds are evaluated as well. Points are awarded based not only on surface cleanliness, but also on obvious build-up of dirt over a long period of time. Tabulation of points earned occurs at the end of all inspections. This year’s winners are:

some of the custodians are licensed stationary engineers, and have hvac, and water and sewer, they take care of electrical plumbing, cleaning, security, assembling, moving. come on and harford county wants to pay them 26,000 a yr to start. Get real and bump the pay up by about 5 grand for an entry level position
