From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
At approximately 10:16pm on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies received several 911 calls in reference to shots fired in the 1400 block of Charlestown Drive in Edgewood MD.
A caller stated that he heard shots fired just before the storm door of his home was damaged. Deputies at the scene were told by several bystanders that they had seen a young man fleeing the area quickly after they heard the shots fired. Deputies located the victim of the shooting, in the 400 block of Meadowood Drive, Edgewood MD, less than a half a mile from the original incident.
The victim, a resident of Joppa MD, was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the torso. He told deputies on the scene that he was the victim of an attempted robbery. Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company transported the victim, who was conscious and alert, to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma by ambulance.
The crime is in the early stages of the investigative process; however, anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division – Detective Phil Golden at 410-836-5430.

Brian says
This is unreal.
These shootings are becoming a weekly, if not daily, occurence at this point.
What is going on in Edgewood?
Safe to say things are getting out of hand?
William says
This is really odd, I thought that crime in Edgewood had been solved? No gangs no crime problems? Did anyone else notice that according to the Sheriff’s Office in yesterday’s paper, the shooting between two GANG members in Bel Air was NOT gang related? That is how the current Sheriff addresses GANG problems, with a good spin on the truth.
concernedmom says
absolutely agree i think all these shootings are related… dahhhhhhhhh
Henry says
It actually may not have been directly gang related despite the fact both those dirtbags were gang members. Given their history (remember, the suspect was involved in the assault a couple years ago that resulted in the victim’s stepfather being paralyzed) it wouldn’t surprise me if they recognized each other at the legion and got into it.
That’s pure speculation on my part, but seems as likely if not more likely than this happening simply because they were in different gangs.
Displaced Philadelphian says
Are you KIDDING ME?! What the hell is going on over in the Meadowood Drive area? Isn’t it worth it at this point to have at least one patrol there 24/7 to curb these violent assaults/attempted murders?!?! How many incidents have we seen in the past few weeks where Ray-Ray or T-Bone or whoever is crawling through someone’s yard bleeding after being shot/stabbed? This is two in two days now, and I know I remember at least a few more if I just go back two or three weeks. This is not random violence – the “victims” are targeted for their drug or gang affiliations or what have you. Why spread your resources across the entire Edgewood area when we all know we can be a bit more surgical with our policing approach.
You tell me where the problem is with the violent crimes: http://www.crimereports.com/map?search=21040
Ron says
Is this a separate incident from the one that took place on Tuesday…two shootings? Or is this an update with the released name of individual involved. The only reason is that I have yet to see a Harford County Sheriffs Dept release. I’m on the mailing list.
thanks
Displaced Philadelphian says
This says last night just after 10pm, so maybe they haven’t sent it out. How do I get on this mailing list?
Henry says
It’s a new shooting, though I don’t know if there’s any connection with any of the other recent ones.
Regardless, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more over the next few weeks unless the shooters are quickly caught. These guys who are getting shot most likely either know who’s doing the shooting or can find out relatively easily and will be out for retaliation rather than helping the police lock these scum up.
bring in the swat team says
bring in the swat team and start raiding, start getting people on suspended tags, other violations, bring in the national guard
Ron says
Go to http://www.harfordsheriff.org/ . Down at the very bottom place your email address in the box for “Stay Informed” down in Footer. This will give you reports as they are released. Also make sure you get on “www.crimereports.com” which Harford Sheriffs Dept participates in. That way you can track crime in the county on various levels from break-ins, assaults, and other forms (categorized).
Displaced Philadelphian says
Thanks Ron. I check crimereports.com frequently…email updates would be nice too.
bring in the swat team says

Who let the dogs out says
Edgewood is out of control, the battle was lost along time ago. The War needs to start if nothing is done this crime will overtake the county. I am not blaming the Police Department they are trying but everytime I read an arcticle they are looking for witnesses, If you could care less about your neighborhood then great but remember you not talking to the law now, might mean that these dirtbags target you or your children next. At this point in time the Police Department needs to put any available resources in that area for an all out Assualt on crime. Zero Tolerance- Musics loud, public intoxication/urination, open can of beer, loitering, YOU GO TO JAIL.
Mr. Smigley says
Jesse Bane & Command Staff Bodway increased Deputies budet by $24 Million and have not changed the results. It is time for real leadership in the Sheriff’s office.
fedup says
Not trying to defend any political toad sheriff, but most of these perps have been arrested by law enforcement time and time again. The real problem is with the judicial system turning these dirtbags loose to continue honing their skills.
Henry says
Virtually every single suspect and victim in these shootings, robberies, assaults, home invasions, etc have been arrested multiple times by HCSO deputies, MSP, APD, HdPD, etc and then released from the prison system without serving even half their sentence or given probation with little or no jail time by the judges in this county.
When the police lock these turds up time and time again and hand good solid cases to the SAO and these turds just end up walking there’s not too much else the police can do. Most of these turds get stopped by the police on a regular basis when they’re out walking around or driving around.
Yes, the police can do more, but if the court and prison systems (and by prison system I mean DOC, not the HCDC) actually held up their end of the bargain then the police could actually focus on stopping some of this crpa before it happen rather wasting time and resources locking the same assholes up over and over.
I know you probably don’t like hearing that since it doesn’t fit in with your “Blame Bane for everything” philosophy, but it’s the truth.
Stefano Dimera says
Henry: I agree with you completely. The entire system is broken. The judges are way too lenient. It must be extremely disheartening for the deputies and the attorneys at the State’s Attorney’s Office to be doing everything they can to get these thugs locked up, only to have the judges spit in their faces by letting them get off so easily. Everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else–the police, the community leaders, but why isn’t there any outrage against the judges? I don’t get it. And I continue to blame Bane because he isn’t holding up his end of the deal. As I said in an earlier post, he refuses to disband, even temporarily until this Edgewood thing is over, any of his special units to shore up the patrol deputies in Edgewood. I am sick and tired of his rhetoric saying crime is down and he has statistics to prove it and he rattles off numbers in his droning voice. I saw Baltimore CIty Chief of Police Fred Bealefeld on tv just now and he is genuinely pissed. You don’t see him spitting out meaningless platitudes. He is fired up, he is on the street himself and he is doing everything he can to get his mess under control. I’m sure tomorrow’s Aegis will have Bane uttering his typical one liners which are absolutely not doing any good and people should be sick of it. I hope no one is buying into his game anymore come November. I guess it’s kind of like Dave Trembley managing the Orioles. You need someone to light a fire under your men, keep your troops motivated when things are bleak, get the fans to believe in you and get your own hands dirty while doing so. Trembley didn’t have it in him and neither does Bane.
contrarian says
Stefano…question…do you believe that the Aegis is showing favoritism towards Bane or towards all of the HC elected officials? Is your opinion simply based on the crime taking place in HC or do you believe that the Aegis is silenty supporting his campaign? I would really like to know and I hope that you are not offended by my question? I truly dislike the Aegis but not for their reporting or lack of reporting on Bane….I would like to know your point of view.
contrarian says
Curfews, zero tolerance, loud music, loitering is a start but will only scratch the surface of the crime taking place in certain neighborhoods in Edgewood. The elephant in the County is Baltimore City. As Baltimore City sheds itself of its citizen’s Harford County absorbs them. Baltimore City Government is compliant if not the driver in pushing this crime into Harford County.
concernedmom says
thank you i was saying this 4 years ago election time…. couldn’t understand where everyone was gonna move to when the city pushed oops excuse me purchased homes from ppl for pennies… ppl who didn’t know any better thought they were rich because someone gave them cash for their run down city row home that now sits on the market for $300,000 to $400,000….hmmmmm
contrarian says
concernedmom…. Don’t forget the demolition of the public housing ( projects) that took place. No affordable housing was constructed after the demolition.
Barbara says
You are dead on. The highrise projects were imploded, only some housing replaced it and the rest of the housing needs went to areas like Edgewood, Columbia and Annapolis. Now some of these people did need our help but then the children had children and so on and so on and now they all live together in homes that were meant to give a hand up not a hand out, with low incomes the area stores could not survive with little or no patronage and either moved out or went out of business so all there are are flea markets or thrift stores. Where there is hopelessness drugs and crime will invade. The local churces do more than our government and still we Christians get a bad rap most of the time.
THANK U HC says
Hey the good thing is when one of them dies, BANE will be at the funeral especially if they were in a gang.
Mr. Smigley says
Bane & Bodway – Definitely the wrong way…
Stefano Dimera says
Bane needs to disband some of his specialty units and focus on the real problems. What is his school policing unit doing when school is out? Do we really need community policing people in Darlington when the problem isn’t there? Bane is too set in his ways to adjust to reality. He’s a liberal Democrat who believes in rehabilitation and programs rather than by the book policing. Everyone can see that this approach does not work, everyone except Bane that is.
concernedmom says
Stefano Dimera says ………….. great points, however you are bleeding the Bane issue.
jgriffith says
concernedmom and anyone esle… no word on the apprehension of killer “Black”? It is approaching two weeks since the American Legion incident and I fear this is a more structured organization underground than I initially imagined. I apologize for directing my inquiry to this blog yet again, but it appears most of the bloggers have a better handle on this community than I. Since I am out of town, information is not readily available. There are still so many I have tried to reach out there who still appear to be in denial.
concernedmom says
nothing that has been made public, i’ve been checking daily…
Stefano Dimera says
He’ll be at the candlelight vigil first for his photo op.
Tired of this says
This is 3 shootings within 3 weeks. This is nuts. I moved here & purchased my home to have a piece of the american dream not to have to duck bullets in my house. What is all this craziness for? I’m not understanding. All I know is my house was taped off for hours with crime scene tape bc some kids think a gun and shooting someone is a game. Upbringing has a lot to do with this it seems when the criminal is apprehended they are young adolescence 17th_ 20. Just throwing their lives away as messing up someone elese’s. What kind of world is this becoming when ppl this young have no feeling about taking a life?
Tired of this says
Just read last night about the young researcher from Hopkins that was stabbed to death while on the phone talking to his mom. All bc two ppl wanted to rob him. He gave up his wallet and they still killed him, what is going on? It seems these senseless crimes aren’t just in Harford County. I know police can’t be everywhere all the time but I almost feel like each law abiding citizen needs a personal officer to escort them all the time. This is all crazy and out of control, toy can’t even mind type own business and be safe anymore.
jgriffith says
It appears to me there is a real problem brewing wihin your community. Perhaps it is a combination of the heat and unemployment among the youth this summer. Drastic measures are required in response to drastic actions. Recently, Chester, PA imposed lock down and a curfew for a month. Action is definitely needed not only by law enforcement but the citizens. It is terrible to live in fear.
And, there are some who know the criminals but are reluctant to turn them in to the authorities. That is is real shame.
money to be made says
we need to vote the state legislators out, there needs to be mandatory punishment period, everyones making money the more times a criminal comes back to court and pays court fees, and lawyer fees, and rehab fees, its a money making business, the lawmakers wont put mandatory sentences and harm there lawyer friends, the only power is to elect someone with balls.
Rick Chatem says
It is clear that one or a few of the sheriff want-a-be’s are posting propaganda. Grow up little boys. You aren’t fooling anyone but yourselves.
Pavel314 says
Whoever is sheriff doesn’t matter. The powers that be have decided that you can cure rotten apples by putting them in a bushel of good apples, hence the welfare blacks infesting Edgewood. This hasn’t worked out well, has it? However, they won’t admit that so we’re stuck with the scum of society. You can elect whomever you wish as sheriff, but as long as the black trash remain, the crime remains. One can only hope they learn to shoot straight and kill enough of each other to make a dent in the population.
sandi says
WOW that’s not a racist post at all is it?
Pavel314 says
Well, Sandi, I guess it is under the current standards where we dare not state the obvious facts of the situation if it casts an unfavorable light on the favored groups of our society.
Pavel314'sdenial says
Thats why i love blogs stupid ppl can hide behind true feelings…. you sound a lil bitter and uneducated….. so that you can get a better grip on whats going on in the County i suggest you get yourself up early on August the 2nd, this Monday and drive up to the social service office in the middle of Bel Air and take a look at the welfare line. What are you gonna post on the 3rd??
Mr. Hamilton says
Apparently Pavel is in denial that yes, indeed, black folks are God’s children too. Some day he’ll wake up and realize he’s in the 21st Century.
concernedmom says
i dont think he cares to be one of GODS children… lets have a moment of silence for “Pavel314’s” denial………….amen
Pavel314 says
I agree that all of us are God’s children regardless of skin color. However, God has good children and bad children; that’s why he made both Heaven and Hell, you see. Do you believe that no black people will be in Hell?
Again, my post was not an attack on all black people. We have a group of people who happen to be black who were moved to our community in some great diversity scheme. There may be some very good people there, but they are accompanied by some very bad people who are degrading the entire community.
Yes, this is the 21st. Century where we have to ignore the obvious facts.
gb11 says
How racist. As for the demographics of those in the welfare line, those who need help are representative of those who live in the area, plain and simple. Perhaps those in line at the welfare office in Essex are your relatives.
Pavel314 says
I have some book learning; I spent a lot of years at the university and have a string of letters after my name. However, by “uneducated” you probably mean that I haven’t been totally indoctrinated with the PC groupthink. I plead guilty to that.
Bitter, yes. The government is taking my tax money to import a bunch of low lifes from Baltimore to ruin my neighborhood and threaten my well being. Somewhat like in Tudor times, where when a person was hanged their estate was billed for the cost of the rope.
Yours is the typical PC response to any comment suggeting that our black brethern are sometimes less than perfect; white people do that too. Is there anything in my post that suggests that there are no white people on welfare? Or that white people don’t commit crimes? Since I have to be at work Monday morning, why don’t you follow those white welfare people home and report back on the number of shootings in their neighborhoods? It would be a real service to the county as The Dagger has apparently missed all of the violence and drugs occuring in the white ghettos.
otter says
interestingly these shootings continue to occur within blocks of a sheriffs office substation housing units specifically geared towards combating the very crime that is occurring maybe the sheriffs office needs to pay a little closer attention to the statistical output by the members on their specialized units and place a premium on placing AGRESSIVE MOTIVATED and PROACTIVE personnel in those positions there seems to be no fear of caring a handgun on the streets in meadow wood this means hands must be placed on people more stop and frisks etc this can be justified do to the high rate of handgun violence occurring in this community yes people will complain mostly the non law abiding whose cocaine sales will plummet due to this increased presence im sure the command bus will be set up for week in this community and the ageis will declare this as another community success no more gangs in edgewood what a joke the way this office spins the current gang problem is laughable what does it take to catagorize an incident as gang related i know a statement by the person before committing the crime “im an associate crip im robbing your store as part of an initiation ritual this act of violence along with a quick beat in will secure my status as a crip baby gangster” what a joke wake up this problem has presisted for years how can such a small geographical area continue to generate such blood shed the solution to the edgewood violence will require the kind of up close and personal policing that conflicts with the current admins hug a thug agenda decreasing violent crime can happen but its going to take a different type of strategy oh well just a thought charles bronson for sheriff
concernedmom says
well the state police and sheriffs office was out in full force last night

We either need to change the name from Windsor Valley (AGAIN) or bring in the Guardian Angels. I’m surprised the History Channel hasn’t ran a Gangland documentary on the streets of Edgewood…It’s coming people. –
Joe Bagodonuts says
Guys,
The so-called “Zero Tolerance” method, has its pro’s and cons. While it worked well in NYC, it failed in Baltimore. What you are seeing in Edgewood are symptoms of a much larger problem…something that law enforcement alone will never be able to tackle. Blaming a Sheriff is not the answer. Its all about personal responsibility and parenting skills that have eroded or disappeared completely in some cases. Many of these young men/women who have been arrested on multiple occasions, have parents who stand by the “admit nothing, deny everything, make a counter accusation” mentality. Too often parents play the race card when Jr. or Princess are arrested and thus they fail to see that their offspring is a criminal…its always someone elses fault, not their child’s.
The next problem is our state justice system. How many PBJ’s (probation before judgement), Stets (case put on inactive docket) and suspended sentences can one person be given? Why are judges reluctant to actually issue arrest warrants for probation violations? Why are defense attorneys allowed to request sentence modification hearings up to a year later just b/c “Ray Ray” has stayed below the radar screen for a year? Why aren’t there enhancements to state sentencing guidelines that add additional years for subsequent offenses? Parole and probation both need reforming. The state of MD justice system needs to follow the way of the federal system by abolishing parole and making probation into supervised release as well as stiffer sentences for multiple convictions.
Remember, all this has a huge price tag. More prisons and more rehab/education/probation will cost a fortune. Are the citizens of MD willing to pay for this with increased taxes or the possibility of earmarking all the “gambling” revenues for these reforms?
If you want change, vote…stop re-electing incumbents who do nothing. This is a Defense Attorney dominated state legilature state.
