From Harford County government:
The Harford County Department of Public Works has announced that Southampton Road between MD Route 543 and Moores Mill Road has been re-opened to traffic. The new bridge and road were opened to traffic on Friday, August 20 at 9:00 a.m.
Southampton Road had been closed to thru traffic for nearly a year as work was performed to install a new bridge and improve traffic flow between MD Route 543 and Moores Mill Road.
The original estimate for the construction of the roundabout on Moores Mill Road and new bridge and road was $3.3 million. However the actual bid for the project came in at $2.3 million.
The total construction project took approximately 15 months to complete.
Major advantages of the improvements to Southampton Road include the ability of school buses to use the road and a sidewalk has also been installed to assist pedestrian traffic. The roundabout on Moores Mill Road will help reduce traffic congestion at the intersection and reduce speed on Moores Mill Road.
Additionally, the road has been designed to reduce the frequency of closing due to heavy rain and flooding conditions.
