From the Harford County Public Library:
The Harford County Public Library Foundation’s 6th annual gala, the Mad Hatter’s Ball, an Evening in the Stacks, will be held on November 6, 2010 at the Abingdon branch from 7 – 11pm. Tickets are on sale now and are $90 per person.
“Each year the gala committee and library staff are thrilled to open the doors of our beautiful branch in Abingdon for a unique, fun experience in the library. The proceeds from the gala help to sustain important services at the library, including the Summer and Winter Reading Programs and Silver Reader Outreach Vehicle,” commented Library Director, Audra Caplan.
The Abingdon Branch, located at 2510 Tollgate Road, will be transformed into a place of whimsy, reminiscent of Wonderland. Cocktail attire is required and party hats are optional! Local businesses have been a key element of the gala since its inception and this year we are proud to have Pairings Bistro and Brooms Bloom Dairy provide guests with an array of food selections. Desserts will be prepared by Coffee Coffee and Flavor Cupcakery and beverages will be provided by Bottleworks.

More exciting news! The Harford County Public Library Foundation is holding a jewelry raffle. Saxon’s Diamond Centers has generously donated a pair of 1.5 carat diamond stud earrings to the library valued at almost $6,000. “My business partner, Kevin Ferrell, and I are honored to be part of an organization that serves the community in so many different ways,” stated Lance Hersh, Owner, Saxon’s Diamond Centers. “The library not only benefits students of all ages, but also adults who do not have computer access and who are furthering their education. And knowing that budget cuts have affected the library we wanted to do something to help raise funds to support the services and staff.” Jewelry raffle tickets are on sale now at all Harford County Public Library branches, Saxon’s two locations in Aberdeen and Bel Air and Coffee Coffee in Bel Air. Tickets are one for $10 or 3 for $25. The winner will be announced at the gala. You do not need to be present to win.
