A motorist was killed Wednesday afternoon after the pick-up truck they were driving collided with a tractor trailer on Route 22 in Aberdeen. The accident occured near the entrance to Aberdeen Proving Ground and caused severe traffic congestion at the end of the business day as that section of Route 22 and the gate to the military gate were closed by police.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at about 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 22 and Post Road. The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene, but the identity of the driver has not been release pending notification of the next of kin, said Sgt. Fred Budnick of the Aberdeen Police Department.
The intersection was closed for at least two hours, according to Budnick.
Maryland State Police assisted the Aberdeen Police Department with reconstruction of the crash and Maryland Transportation Authority Police assisted with the commercial vehicle inspection.
The investigation is ongoing.
